About the Author David Hayward was a pastor for over 30 years in Presbyterian and Vineyard churches before leaving the paid clergy and setting up The Lasting Supper, an online community for spiritually-independent people. It's an honest, personal account of one person's journey from a black-and-white comfort zone into the technicolour unknown, describing the highs and lows of getting there and how it feels to arrive and realise that the journey has only just begun.Despite what other reviews say, I didn't get the impression that David Hayward retains any anger or bitterness towards the church or Christianity - or indeed towards religion in general. Rather, that he's experienced those things from the inside and is now critiquing them from a different perspective - neither inside, nor entirely outside, but as someone who values both as valid components of who he is and where he is, now. In fact, far from conveying bitterness or anger, as he himself says towards the end of the book, I felt that he exudes a sense of inner peace and happiness, in the midst of his continuing questioning.I'd recommend this book, especially in the context of Hayward's other work.

By Chris Hill I think there will be three basic responses to this book by people who choose to take up and read it. If you really need your understanding of reality to be a certain way (by way of certainty), such readers will most likely scream "heresy!" If you have been down a similar path as the author, you will most likely identify with his journey as you are saying to yourself something like, "Yeah, me too, me too!" And then there are those who find themselves in a place of transition wherein they have come to a place in their life journey where they may be confused and not sure which way to turn. I think it is this group of people who will stand the most to gain by engaging the content of this book and being engaged by it. I recommend Questions are the Answer by David Hayward very highly.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Questions are Necessary for Spiritual Growth By Kristie L. Hayes I have been following David Hayward, aka NakedPastor, for some time now. His daily cartoons are my devotional, and many of his drawings reflect many of my thoughts and questions about the church.In this book, he uses his story to let people know that it is ok to ask questions and not have answers. I found his journey interesting, and in some ways it paralleled mine. My life came crashing down in 2009, and I really started to question who I was, what I believed, and what I wanted out of life. Reading this helped me to understand this is a normal experience for people. We are constantly questioning things our whole life, and we should be. Questions are what push us to search, to challenge our current beliefs, and to force us to face the truth. If we happen to get an answer, it is often different for each individual. David is always encouraging people to think for themselves and figure out what they really believe, and to do that, you have to ask yourself questions. This is YOUR journey, and something most of us will go through. Spiritual growth is hard work, as David illustrates in this book.It was also really neat to see many of his drawings in one place. I have seen a lot of them, but there were some I had not. If you are at a place where the spiritual questions can no longer be ignored, and you feel as though life may change dramatically because of that, this book is for you.
