3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Clever, witty stories that entertain By Kitty Smith Jim Heskett's collection of short stories is the perfect escape vehicle. Whether you need a diversion during your office lunch break or something to get lost in while stuck in the passenger seat, there's a story here to carry you off to someplace less mundane. Stories like Observation A14 are tongue in cheek, the righteous indignation of a writer witnessing her baby being ripped apart by a focus group with zero literary skills but an eye for marketing. Oh the horrors! (and the Pulitzers). The feuding sign-spinners of Damn You Bobby Finch amuse as you ponder whether or not burgers and fries are to blame for the reason everyone in this country is brain dead and fat. And the Great Proteini visits a deli to inspect the salad dressing and determine the protein to fat ratio of the free range chicken while scoping out the hotties with Exactly Two Aspirin Man and Expanding Belly. Which poses the question, why DO Belly and Proteini continue to hang out with Asprin when it's clear he's a pompous ass? At the end of each story are some hilarious "discussion questions" that made me snicker every time. The collection is a clever mix of the ridiculous to the thrilling, perfect for a little afternoon escapism.

I really wanted to like this book By littlebear514 With the title of this book being as amusing as it is, I really expected to like this.My first disappointment was at the long, overly descriptive characterizations of each character. After our introduction, most of our protagonists have either a dragged out pompous conversation or overly long stream of consciousness. After having these overly long discussions (or thoughts) the story quickly reaches its (usually very obvious) climax and for the most part, abruptly ends thereafter. But the 'amusement' doesn't end there. There are silly questions after each story. Not my idea of funny. I think it was supposed to be? If it's not... then I don't even know where to go with this.To sum things up, I personally didn't care for the style of writing or humor but I can certainly see it being funny to many other readers and listeners. After all, humor is subjective. I would recommend checking out the sample if you are considering purchase.I enjoyed the narrator and would certainly like to listen to more of his narrations.As for the author...I am curious to see how his novel-length stories fare for me. I have a feeling that I would like those better than the short stories.I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the writer, publisher or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

Seriously; they are so good you lose track of everything and just have to keep turning those pages! I almost missed a couple bus stops thanks to Mr. Heskett.I honestly can't think of a better book for any bus (or vanpool) commuter. The stories are short, hilarious, and engaging. You can finish one in a typical commute time, which leaves time to enjoy the amusing tongue-in-cheek "Reader's Guide" questions at the end of each. As for the stories, they are diverse and expertly crafted. Examples of the best you can find in the genre; not a word wasted, and stories told clean, without fluff, and superbly well.A common theme I noticed throughout was people caving in, failing, changing at the last minute - or not. Their reasons vary, but every time something is revealed. Can we actually succeed through failing? Does our failure say more about us than our success? I honestly don't know, but it sure was fun to watch each character on their short-but-satisfying journeys.I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

About the Author Will Eno is a Residency Five Fellow at the Signature Theatre in New York, which presented Title and Deed in 2012 and The Open House in 2014. Following an acclaimed run at Yale Repertory Theatre, his play The Realistic Joneses ran on Broadway in 2014, where it won a Drama Desk Award, was named USA Today’s “Best Play on Broadway,” topped the Guardian’s 2014 list of best American plays, and was included in the New York Times’ “Best Theater of 2014.” The Open House won the 2014 Obie Award, the Lortel Award for Outstanding Play and a Drama Desk Award, and was included in both Time Out New York and Time magazine’s Top Ten Plays of the Year. Title and Deed was on the New York Times and the New Yorker’s Top Ten Plays of 2012. His play Gnit, an adaptation of Ibsen’s Peer Gynt, premiered at Actors Theatre of Louisville in 2013. Middletown premiered at the Vineyard Theatre in New York City and subsequently at Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago and at many other theaters and universities throughout the U.S. His internationally heralded play Thom Pain (based on nothing) was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and has been translated into more than a dozen languages. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. LIFE GOES ON By David Keymer Two couples occupy adjacent homes. Both men suffer from an obscure degenerative disease. The women try to cope with the effects of it on their marriages and aren’t finding it easy. Nor do the men help. The one man seems to have lost affect: he either doesn’t notice or doesn’t care what his wife is going through as life closes in on them. She remembers a better past between them but it isn’t there any more. What should she do? For the duration of this play, which presents a slice of their life, not their whole life, she drifts between temptation and duty. At the end of the play, it’s not all that clear which side she’s come down on, but probably duty. The other couple is more bohemian but not all that much: social conventions weigh in on all these people. So there’s a little almost-flirting, nothing much happens, and at the end of the play, things are pretty much like they are at the beginning. But isn’t that the way most of life is? Along the way, using ordinary, not poeticized, language, playwright Eno produces affecting images of loss.

How long has it been when you've gone to see a play and never felt you knew what it was "about" and enjoyed it so much, you were glad its "aboutness" was so illusory or like, hey, real life. About the Author Paul Heussenstamm is a renowned teacher and fourth generation artist. He has created over 2000 mandala paintings and taught worldwide for over 25 years. Beautiful and Calming By Errin Doyle After seeing this book on the shelf at my grocery store (for fifteen dollars), I decided to look some up on Amazon. This one still appealed to me the most, and it's just as beautiful in person. The example/colored image is slightly different in detail from the blank one. Not a big deal, but at first it threw me off as a perfectionist wanting to mimick the example for my first try. I plan to buy more of these books.

I am meaning liking the.pictures so much that I wish to keep it long after I am finished coloring it.The reason this is unlike any other mandalas book I have seen where it gives you a beautiful color Mandala for inspirationand then gives you a similar mandala to color.The one thing of note I will mention is the book is not printed on "average" coloring book pages. Flat porous paper that takes several types of media well. I can only think of the word "gloss" (like that of some children's books that have illustrated pages. Where markers ink would not sink in and could wipe off, and pencils could scratch the picture on the opposite side. I asked to.artists. one friend the other family's advice . They both suggested gel pens and that has worked beautifully. As a precaution I let each color dry first.Thinking this book was so nicely done I gifted this book to my boyfriend sending it to him for Valentine's Day . I would highly recommend this book too others as well.**edited for clarity.

I read the reviews of other books and came back to order this one, I haven't finished the book yet, but I really do enjoy it. I used some colored gel pens I happen to have around the house so I did not have to spend money on fancy pens or worry about the thickness or thinnes of a pen. I highly recommend this book for anyone jump starting into adult coloring books

Breaking Bad In The Sixties By CeeCee I grew up thinking and being told of all the negative aspects of this drug I might think I can fly and jump off a building, or I will go crazy hallucinating and stab myself or others in a drug filled frenzy. What I learned from Author Colin Willis is that it's not always how the story goes.It was an interesting and well worded pro statement to the medicinal and clinical positive aspects of the drug. It was very surprising to me but when you break it down against some of the drugs being used today to treat phyco disorders the side effects are not that much different.Whether you are pro or con you will find this a book that gives you pause and food for thought about what your really know about this notorious drug.

In this book, I learned quite a few things about LSD that I had no idea about. One thing in particular is that LSD is therapeutic for people with mental problems. It can also help relieve pain.The whole book is short and sweet, yet filled with helpful information for people who want to know more about LSD. Nice overview By Lucidity I would suggest anyone that may be thinking of trying LSD to do more research beyond reading this, but I think "LSD: The Truth About Acid" provides a good basic overview and does a great job of skipping all of the misleading propaganda and scare tactics that are out there, it's unbiased as well, offering both the pros AND cons which is obviously essential to a topic such as this.I found the chapter detailing the history behind the discovery of LSD to be especially interesting and it has led me to do some further research about Hoffman; I do think that this chapter could have been elaborated on further as the history is intriguing, but I got it for free so I don't have much room to complain in that regard. In summary, I would say the book is worth the read.

More interesting rare gems from a dedicated author By Lord Heath THE FACTSThis is the fourth of many paperbacks showcasing the films of Laurel and Hardy. Each volume focuses its attention on an individual film and has pages of publicity material used to promote the film during its initial run (and often re-releases).Zenobia was a full length feature film made by Hal Roach in 1938 (released 1939) during a contract dispute between Roach and Stan Laurel. Harry Langdon "replaced" Laurel for this film, which is a pretty decent outing and worthy of a look.This booklet (it wouldn't be fair to call it a book) features re-printed posters, newspaper clippings, lobby cards, interviews and adverts which were published in 1938 when the film was released.Each issue has a glossy cover, and approximately 11x8.5" in size.This volume is 52 pages, of which 37 pages are used for actual material from this film.The end of the volume contains information relating to other projects from Stan Laurel Productions, as well as a promo for the next instalment in the series.THE OPINONSThe work herein has been collected over a long period of time by a dedicated author, whose previous works are moulded in the same style of presentation. To have so much information about one film all in one place may be a little overwhelming for some, but for the true die-hard Laurel & Hardy fan this is an interesting and quite enjoyable offering from Hyatt. As the set of issues continues to be expanded, this would make a nice addition to the bookshelf of any fan.In addition, the quality of both the print and text herein is a noticeable improvement over the first two issues. I would have to say in my opinion that this is the best volume (of the 3) so far.
