2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good online resource. Book varies depending on studying timeframe. By Primadona 5/19/16: To God be ALL the glory! I PASSED!!! You can read the lengthy review I wrote when I was frustrated with this book back in february. I studied x1month in february reading the Barron's CCRN book and did all online questions in this book except for profesional pracitce ones. I spent part of march depressed and unproductive and then i started studying for the Gerontology exam instead which i took 4/20. Took a week off and started studying again for this. The easy way around the online questions for me was moving them all in free LMS and creating my own practice tests so i don't do repeat questions. I also created quizzes. The LMS has an app so i was able to practice on my phone, kindle and online. I got 88% to 92% on the practice tests I created. I passed with 87 questions. You need to 68 to pass. I went back and changed answers and it looked like i changed 3 right ones. This book is worth it. The exam is HARD. Doing the questions helped and i got done with about 1 hour left. I was completing practice tests at home in an hour to 65 minutes. I read the barron's book 2x. read pulmonary 3x since that was a weak area and i scored 93% on the pulmonary section on the exam. Those are the only two books you need. After taking the exam, I'll rate pass pccn 4stars. considering the weird questions i saw on the exam, if you read this book from front to back, you should take the exam feeling easy and score 100%. I did the online questions, I went back and changed 3 questions otherwise, i'd have nailed 90%. The questions mirror what you see on the exam. I had another book i didn't read....and i had the cd from another book which i tried to do questions from that last long time ago and those don't mirror the real deal. All you need is barrons and this.Original review:I've had this book since december and i've contemplated how to rate it on amazon. it's not going to show up as a verified purchase because I bought it directly from evolve when they had the 25% off sale and it was significantly cheaper than amazon. That said, I'm going with 3 stars for now. This book is very dense. As a review book, i'd rate it zero. I mean the cardiac chapter is about 150 pages at least! That is more than you get in a medsurg textbook or critical care textbook. It has way too much fluff information. Now if you're buying this book to keep as future reference, I'd give it 5 stars as it contains more info than those you'd find on bio and pathophysiology books combined. If you have a whole year to review for the PCCN exam, then you can use this but then again, studying too long for something makes almost futile as you tend to forget. The good, the book has a lot of review activities. I had a hard time with the coronary artery location and injury and this book had a box activity in it for that. It has other activity boxes and I find them very helpful in nailing certain concepts that i constantly struggled with. Unlike the pass ccrn book, this is not in a bullet type format. it's more narrative which makes it even harder to read for a review book. The best thing about this book is the online companion questions. I'd give that 5 stars for the number and comprehensiveness of questions and 4 stars for usage. It really covers everything and more. I've done all 301 cardiac questions and found only 2 errors. The errors were mainly with the answer choice. i.e it says answer is C but rationale says answer is A so if you read the rationale, you'll catch the errors. I've also done all the neuro questions and didn't find any errors there and i've done some of the pulmonary questions as well and MO questions. It provides you with a study mode and exam mode. The reason i gave it 4 stars for usage is that when you click study mode, it throws out all the questions in the subject matter you select. So if you select cardiac, it throws out all 301 questions. You are not able to choose perhaps 50 questions that study section. Only way I was able to complete all in a sitting was to leave my computer on for several days logged in. I started once and lost connection and had to restart. By not being able to select the number of questions, suppose you chose both cardiac and pulmonary, you have almost 500 questions thrown at you.It would be nice if the makers of this thing would allow users to select the number of questions during the study section. This would allow users to perhaps select about 3 or 4 subject matters and then choose to have a 50 or a 100 questions during that study section. This way, users can build up to sitting and answering questions at a time. The exam mode randomly selects 150 questions from all areas to mimic the test. That said, what i've found most helpful was using barron's ccrn review book. amazon has it for cheap but i borrowed from my library. it has the info in bullet type formats, stars the important things and it covers the NEED TO KNOW. By going through that, i've been able to answer the questions in this books online companion. I read through most of the cardiac portion of this book and decided to use as a reference but haven't needed to. Yes, the barron's book is a ccrn book but when you go through it, you can answer the online questions linked to this pass ccrn book. I find it's better to do that than just answering questions because by knowing some content prior, doing questions reinforces concepts.Kudos to the author to making this pccn version. a coworker used the pass ccrn and passed so i was happy to see this. I hope they can use this little feedback to update newer editions.Has this book helped me pass the test? I'll be back to update.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I would highly recommend buying the access for the online questions By Amazon Customer I bought this review book and only used the online questions and I passed on my first try. I did not use the book, I went over the online questions that you can have access to once you buy the book. I thought most of the questions were harder on the exam than the review questions but it did cover all the topics that I was tested on. You can buy the access for the online questions and not buy the book. I would highly recommend buying the access for the online questions. Reading the rationales helped me understand the topics. I only opened the book once to get the online code for the online questions. I would highly recommend this. I know it's the reason I passed on the first try.
