15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Wolves done right By Dean M. Watts I have loved werewolves ever since seeing Lon Chaney's role in the Wolfman. But the movie and book world has never really caught up to the potential of this mythical character. I have been flustered over the lack of good monster books until I was introduced to T.W. Piperbrooks first Outage novel by a good friend. He initially recommended it to me knowing of my hatred of all things winter, but once I got into the short novel I discovered the true horror of the tale: Werewolves! I waited and grabbed up these books as each came out, and my only wish is that I had been able to grab them all up in a collection. It is much better to be able and "devour" a great story in one stretch setting as opposed to waiting for each segment to come out, and now new readers will have this luxury. Forget zombies; push aside vampires; go for the gusto with the wolves! Only Jeff Strand with his pair of wolf novels "Wolf Hunt 1 &2" have been able to satisfy my urge for unadulterated monster mayhem as much as Piperbrook has with the Outage series. Read and enjoy; and then go our and get a copy of the original Lon Chaney Wolfman to watch. No better combo can be had!

Together at last in one volume By redwillow Having these three books as a single collection is certainly the best option for a reader new to the series.Each volume is quite short and reading them as I did as they came out meant a horrible wait between each section.Part 1 is the origin (of sort) to the series as the outbreak gets under way and we first meet the main character of the story.I won't go into spoilers but a cold winters night quickly descends into a race for life with people and loved ones not making it.Part 2 deals with the journey from a small collection of houses into the nearest town and what happens on the journey there.Again nobody is safe and people just cannot be taken at face value.Part 3 which only just came out deals with the events from early morning to daybreak when salvation might reach anybody who survives the night.The story flows quickly and grips from the start but not everything is explained. Whilst book 3 is the end of the principle story arc there is certainly scope for more which the author has hinted at. I for one could do with a continuation of this story and a more detailed end story.The beasts might have gone as daylight breaks but where? ...and will they return?If you like horror and escapism then this is a good read. I read each story at a single sitting and was always left wanting more.Is it the best literature ever...noIs it a darn entertaining read ....yes.A solid 4**** series

Fredette I have read all three Outages and since werewolves are my favorite scary monster, I thoroughly enjoyed them. I like it when a book gets right down to business and I found this to be true in all three books. They were very suspenseful and had me on the edge of my seat. I usually do my reading late at night when my husband has gone to bed and I'm all alone sitting in my recliner in the living room. This is when I can really get into the meat of the story. Of course, when I finally decide to turn in I first turn on my hall light and then turn off the others and run up the stairs quickly before something grabs my ankle. And, of course I wouldn't hang my foot over the edge of the bed. I guess I just love to be scared. I am so looking forward to Outage 4 and who knows, maybe others. I recommend these books to anyone who enjoys werewolves as they won't be disappointed.I have read quite a few werewolf stories and have to say that the Outgages are right up there with the scariest.
