And it takes a lot more skill than just being a musician want-a-be in a garage band, or a weekend warrior in a maudlin bar band with a couple of buddies. From an early age Ron knew that he wanted to make music his life’s work and he was willing to work hard, learn his trade, and pay his dues. During his more than forty-five years in the music business he had to use his wits, reinvent himself several times, be flexible about the genre of music he played, and take a few hard knocks. Cried when I read that Ron was there the night the skywalk fell in K.C. I've known Ron since 1980 and never heard him tell that story. It proves how sad and sensitive he still is about that horrific night when he was playing a gig....and then disaster struck. I had the honor of playing flute for him in the orchestra he put together for Medea which he writes about in the book. I'm so proud to know this very talented man and I celebrate his writing talents as well as his incredible bass playing! I highly recommend this book! You won't be disappointed.

"Close Enough For Jazz" delivers an insightful and entertaining look at a working jazz musicians odyssey through life. Using his stunningphotographic memory and sometimes outrageous experiences he manages to capture the evolution of many decades of Kansas City Jazz interspersed with beautiful international travel experiences. A great read, not only for jazz musicians, but anyone interested in a unique artistic process of a very astute ,multifaceted and passionate human being. Way To Go Wildman!!
