My name is Stephanie Ann Walker. I was born Steven Allan Walker many years ago to a world that I never really fit into. I was lucky enough throughout my life to have great parents, a good job, a loving sister, and later on a wonderful wife and son. I wouldn’t change any of these for the world. For everything I had I missed the one thing that I needed and that was connectivity with my inner being and my outer shell. This story is that connection. I thought for many months after the final surgeries and decisions on how to present this. As an academician I am well versed in theses, dissertations, journal articles, etc. But this is more than an academic paper to be given at a conference. This is a real life story of a woman who finally knew who she was and what it took to unleash that person. This story may be yours or it may not be. In the end the only one who matters is the one who is telling it. Therefore this story is mine. If you can see similarities then please by all means take them with you. If none of this resonates within you then no harm done. Either way the story is mine to tell and tell it I have. I shall always remain to the world Stephanie Ann Walker; woman.

An insightful look into a personal journey By Ydnic Through the journals of a college professor, as well as interpersonal vignettes, this book provides insight into one woman's transition across gender lines. I found it fascinating as well as poignant...and even very funny on occasion. Recommended to those who are on both sides of the issue. For me, it's helped to understand and empathize with a number of my friends.

A wonderul tranistion story By Samuel Rafael I found "The Walker Journals," by Gypsey Teague to be a riveting account of the gender struggles of a type "A" male who has been outwardly successful in all his endeavors. However, achievement in academicia, sports and family are not enough for a person who cannot be true to himself. Finally, a nearly successful suicide triggers the start of a mid-life transition to a female gender role. According to the author, this work is loosely-based on her real-life experiences and the fictional account of several years in the life of "Stephanie" appears complete and thorough in almost every way. Where it falls down just a bit is only in the aspect of sexuality, where there is never even the slightest hint of any struggle or conflict. It is always assumed that if Stephanie's wife will remain in the relationship, Stephanie will never even have a thought of looking at the possibility of a heterosexual side. That would have been an interesting topic to explore.
