About the Author I am a woman, a surgeon, and a teacher of surgeons. I graduated from New York University College of Medicine in 1976 and completed my surgical residency there in 1981. I was one of the last physicians to train in the "old" Bellevue Hospital. At that time, very few women entered general surgery. I have spent my life in academic surgery, operating and teaching others the science and art of surgery. When I was appointed Head of the Department of Surgery at the University of Iowa in 1995, I was the second woman in the history of American Surgery to attain such a position. My textbooks all share the goal of teaching surgery in clear, lucid language. My most recent books, "A Few Small Moments" and "Beachcombings", are short story collections. I live in Iowa City with my husband.

By Pam 13 years ago we drove our 2 children from Minneapolis, MN to Hollywood, CA to participate in "Pilot Season". We knew nothing! If this book would have been available then, it would have saved us a lot of time, money and heartache! This is the best book written. It is easy to read and has such practical, honest advice. A "Must Read" for any parent preparing to follow their kids' dreams in this highly competitive business!

At long last, the ULTIMATE Hollywood handbook for parents By Allison Zuehlsdorff This book is the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” of the film and television industry. It’s a concise handbook of everything a parent needs to know from getting started, to booking the job, to surviving the long haul. Being in the business for years now, I’m reminded of the many friends of friends who have contacted me for advice on how to get their child started in the business. I did my best to unlock the mysteries in a conversation or two, but if this book had been available, I literally would have told them “EVERYTHING you need to know is in this book!” It’s full of information, humor, and highlights several different parental styles. You’re sure to recognize yourself and your child somewhere in this book! It’s engaging-you won’t want to put it down, which I’d say is pretty rare for a “handbook.” I’m not ashamed to say I learned a lot from reading it and my daughter has been in the business for 7 years now. It’s not only a must, it’s a true gift to parents of any child whose dream is to work in Hollywood.

By Amy This book is packed with useful, practical and honest information from a mom who learned the ropes, not always the easy way. It can be really tricky helping a child break into the entertainment industry and this book can help you avoid the pitfalls and scams and will answer even the most basic questions for families who are just getting started or maybe trying to decide whether or not to take the plunge. I think most parents whose kids work in the business would read this book and say, "I wish someone had told me all of this when we started."

About the Author Richard Corman has been capturing poignant moments of human triumph for over three decades. Pfeiffer I bought the book for my granddaughter who dances, giggles and rolls on the floor, so that one day she too may rock the stars.This inexpensive book will inspire youngsters to do their own thing while seeking a pathway to their own success. The empowering quotes of Misty Copeland resonate with the wonderful photos of Misty dancing in a studio and on an old piano. You can see that she is having the time of her life. The introduction by Misty’s first ballet instructor put a lump in my throat.

The photos and quotes do a wonderful job capturing and illustrating Misty's strong yet graceful being. I definitely recommend it to all readers, especially young women. I've never had a book that's perfect for my coffee table before By Alyssa I've never had a book that's perfect for my coffee table before, not until now. Most folks have books of European countries or photos of fantastic dinners and hors d' oeuvres. Me, I now have the lovely Misty Copeland. This young lady, used to play basketball and dance at the Boys and Girls Club- having fun just being a kid. But her teacher saw something special in her and managed to get her a scholarship. Four years later, she was the first African-American female principal dance for the American Ballet Theatre. Richard Corman's book, Misty Copeland: Power and Grace shows the magic of the blessings she was given and the opportunity to become what many "little brown girls" only dream of! The photos show litheness, symmetry, and inventiveness. She's not only beautiful but what she does with her body and those magical feet is beyond dance. This more of a picture book than a novella or novel, but it's one that your table will crave! I'm so happy to have received such a lovely book! Found the book extremely interesting and I learned a bit more about the subject.

Enough is said about the early days for the reader to see how things have changed, and what the pressures on the radiologist are.

Richly illustrated with film stills and previously unseen material from the Stanley Kubrick Archive, this book is designed to open the reader's eyes to the wonder and richness of Kubrick's oeuvre.The collection held by the University is made up of a range of material including props, scripts, research, production paperwork such as call sheets, costumes and photographs for all his films and Look, as well as material for those projects that were conceived but never visualised. By maintaining a high degree of control in the film making process, Kubrick was able to retain material generated by his pioneering techniques, research and production work: arguably making this collection one of the most complete examples of film making practice world wide. Kubrick's films have inspired a huge amount of critical commentary, yet until recently critics and scholars have made little use of archival resources.The essays included in this collection offer new perspectives on Kubrick's working methods, the manifold influences on his films, their themes and style as well as their marketing and reception. Between them, the essays cover the totality of Kubrick's career, from his beginnings as a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker in the late 1940s and early 1950s to his last movie, Eyes Wide Shut, which was released a few months after his death in 1999.Ranging from low-budget noir thrillers to spectacular historical and futuristic epics, from war films to erotic dramas, from horror to topical movies, Kubrick's work explores fundamental questions about sexuality and violence, military organisations and combat, male bonding and marriage, human nature and social change. 13 of 16 people found the following review helpful. The Stanley Kubrick book to get. By Danel P. Olson This new study ranks as one of the best Stanley Kubrick resources I have come across. With bracing interpretations on all of Kubrick's films and superb access to the Kubrick archive, it lives up in all ways to its subtitle, New Perspectives. This work goes beyond being simply an outstanding study of Kubrick's oeuvre that could be used by both fans and film professors alike, though. Heavy bond paper that shows the many posters, frames, archived letters/cards/notes, behind-the-scenes shots, and stills to their best, along with a Smyth-sewn binding and uncommonly beautiful design, indicate that this is a book of art as well, certain to last and meant to attract film-lovers' eyes to your coffee table or shelf. It also features a gorgeous filmography. An expensive book for a publisher to produce (I was surprised by its weight!), it's Amazon price is quite reasonable. If I could give this one a sixth star, I would. This is the book that takes us deepest inside Kubrick's filmcraft.

I do this to replace the erroneous belief that currently pervades many of our mental health professionals about PTSD being a lifelong psychic injury that cannot be healed. 

About the Author About the Author Dr. George Lindenfeld is a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology awarded by the American Board of Professional Psychology. He served as a Resident in Medical Psychology at the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland, Oregon. His Ph.D. is in Child and Developmental Psychology earned at Utah State University. He obtained a Master's degree in School Psychology at the City College of New York. His career as a child and clinical psychologist as well as a neuropsychologist spans a 45 year time period. He has been certified in EEG Biofeedback and Neurofeedback by the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America as well as by the Academy of Certified Neurotherapists. He was an Approved Marital and Family Supervisor awarded by the American Association of Marital and Family Therapists. He has been trained in the use of clinical hypnosis.

By Katherine M Billiot Wonderful book explaining this new treatment that works. I use this treatment regularly in my practice. As a Navy Veteran Psychologist, I can vouch for this treatment and have seen the positive effects first hand, time and time again. I am building confidence in this treatment as I learn more about it. I encourage other mental health practitioners to explore this treatment. The book looks at the treatment from a PTSD perspective, but RESET and BAUD work for many clinical presentations. I've used it for depression, essential tremors, anxiety/panic, guilt, and numerous other clinical presentations. I liken it to EMDR, but it works much faster.

By Kevin Billiot Dr. Lindenfeld is a pioneer, patriot, veteran's advocate, and veteran himself. As a disabled veteran, I have had the opportunity to use RESET therapy to help me with combat related trauma. In one treatment with Dr. Lindenfeld, I have felt more in control, I'm sleeping better, and I'm not on edge as much. I have only Dr. Lindenfeld to thank for this. I look forward to using RESET for other targets. This book is well written and easy to understand. I highly recommend it and am telling everyone I know about it. Thank you Dr. Lindenfeld for your passion toward vets.

The frustration and extreme difficulty in managing veterans with PTSD is widely recognized. I personally have attempted to contact directors in the Intrepid Centers where many veterans are being treated to encourage medical directors to consider the BAUD, so far to no avail.

Did I mention that I love it?It's got some of the best drawings/art work! Like the full size versions, this book has a variety of artist and styles. The variety allows you to choose from some less complex designs to some detailed art.The smaller sized books have been off putting to me in general....but this book is the perfect size. It's good to travel with but won't get lost in your suitcase either.The book is single sides, medium weight paper, not perforated. You will have to slip a piece of paper behind if your using your markers.I give this book 5 out of 5 markers up. I can't wait to see what the next mini collection will be! Well done Global Doodle Gems!!

Kimmel "Mr. North" is a light and relatively minor film from 1988, albeit one with a strong cast. It was directed by 25 year old Danny Huston, son of the legendary director John Huston, who had collaborated on the script and was to have a role in the film. When John was too ill to appear Robert Mitchum stepped in. Shot in Newport, Rhode Island, it would be largely forgotten but for the fact that Nat Segaloff, then a freelancer film critic for the Boston Herald, was given the opportunity to have exclusive behind the scenes access to the people involved in making the film. These included Anthony Edwards, Lauren Bacall, Angelica Huston, Harry Dean Stanton, David Warner, and Virginia Madsen. Modest of budget, humble of ambition, and pleasant of purpose, it was intended, first, as light entertainment, and, second, as a means by which a young director could get a foothold on a career. Inasmuch as the young director was the son of a very well-known older director, the father prevailed upon his movie star friends to help him give his son a jumpstart into feature filmmaking. What nobody anticipated was that the director-father would become critically ill just as filming started and that his struggle to postpone death would haunt every moment of what was supposed to be a romantic adventure set in a recent fairy-tale past. The old director was John Huston, and the events surrounding. Well-written and edited, the book includes Footnotes, Endnotes, Epilogue, Index, and a generous photo section.

Mr. Huston/Mr. North presents an intimate portrayal of life on-set with one of the great dynasties of American cinema, but Segaloff is, by no means, obsequious towards his subjects. If you long for the days of movie stars and wish to experience the kind of organized pandemonium, commitment and cold pasta salad it takes to pull off a movie, then this is the read for you. I recommend enjoying a martini while reading...be liberal with the vermouth
