By Wulfstan This is one of the most entertaining, yet totally non-linear autobiographies I have had the pleasure to read. Fun, with quite a few grins along the way, it is the tale of Disney Legend Pinto Colvig- sometime hobo- sometime vaudeville actor, radio actor, also newspaper cartoonist, circus performer, and a very prolific movie voice actor and the Voice of Goofy. Actually I missed quite a few of the various and sundry "occupations" Pinto listed and tells tales about. It's truly fascinating, but if you are one of those people that want a Bio to start with "Born on a farm in Oregon in 1892 and died 1967*" (odd how a autobiography can have the writers death, but....) then you need to skip this.For those with a fun & fancy free mind, this book is a wild ride and fun read.Pinto also did Practical Pig, Grumpy and Sleepy, as well as others. He was even a Munchkin (well, sort of, you'll have to read it yourself).Besides his own multi-faceted career, Pinto writes about several others in the "business' including Carl Stallings, etc. This book is a treasure-trove of lore for those who want to know about the early days of sound in motion pictures, or Disney historians.Edited with a easy hand and profusely footnoted by Todd James Pierce, in whose direction I bow. Excellent job.* the book doesnt actually give the death- but Pinto succumbed to the same killer as did Walt in- Cigarettes and Lung Cancer.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The long awaited autobiography of a Disney legend By Didier Ghez This book took close to 75 years to get released. It was worth the wait. Written in the 1940s by the voice of Goofy, who also happened to be one of Disney's story artists, this book is a page-turner and fascinating from start to finish. Kuddos to Disney historian Todd James Pierce for digging up the manuscript and for negotiating the book's release. This is clearly one of the best Disney history books of the decade.
