After reading this book, I am definitely recommending this to him. I think the best part about this book is that the method is all natural, and you don't have to go to the extremes or do anything insane in order to achieve the desired results. I also like how the author starts off by explaining the science behind diabetes so that his readers understand it 100%. It's really fascinating to me that by changing small things in your lifestyle, you can cure (or even avoid) type two diabetes! Even if you don't have diabetes, this is a great book to read as there are many tips in here that can help you lead a healthier lifestyle overall.

By Amazon Customer This book was extremely well written, explaining the complex physiology of type 2 diabetes in small nuggets of information, which were continually reinforced as new information was introduced, so that by the end of the first part the reader not only gained a basic understanding of type 2 diabetes, but could already anticipate how to make the dietary and lifestyle changes necessary to reverse the root cause of the disease rather than merely treat the lifelong symptoms. The illustrations, tables and charts were relevant, clear and concise. An added bonus was the collection of the personal recipes of the author, simple, easy-to-follow and appealing even to a non-diabetic! His own experience with other therapies and in following this program was companionably present but never intrusive, and he encourages the reader to adapt the program to suit individual, personalized preferences while working with a doctor, stringently monitoring intake and blood glucose to see the positive effects of following the program, and retaining an awareness of the roles the liver and potassium play in the cure of the disease. I would recommend this book to anyone who has type 2 diabetes themselves or in their family, as I do, as well as to anyone who is interested in basic information about the disease and a generally unrecognized but effective strategy to cure it. Hundreds of thousands of people could profit from implementing the advice in this book!

Didn't Reach Potential By 125Pages *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Original review posted on www.125pages.wordpress.comLeon Joyce is a complicated non-complicated man. He does not feel traditional desire in the sexual manner but feels immensely towards objects of beauty. One of these objects is Tess Wachowicz; a women who fits his aesthetic ideal. He marries her knowing she has dalliances but is mostly content that they are meaningless and she only loves him. Upon her death he hears rumors of her loving another and the search for the truth takes him on an unexpected journey.I really wanted to like this book, the premise was intriguing and I wanted to be drawn into this world. Unfortunately this was not the case. It took three times to get past the first twenty pages, and then it was a forced read to the end. None of the characters drew me in, unfortunately they were almost universal portrayed as pretty horrible. I kept hoping for some redeeming qualities or someone I could latch on to, but alas that never happened. The story was very full with description, way too much description. Sentence after sentence describing items and things made the read draining. One sentence alone had thirty-eight items described. I was half way thru and felt I had already read a War and Peace type tome. If you cut out the extra ¼ of the book that was used to describe things and gave Leon some quality that you could root for this could be an excellent read. Joyful had the potential to be an incredible read but sadly fell short for me.

By Denise Cameron An intense and angst -ridden exploration of the effects of grief so consuming, so overwhelming, that the matters of subsistence are sublimated to the relentless waves of emotion.Most scenes are set in rural Victoria and deal with characters so flawed they fit together as do pieces in a well used jigsaw. As the narrative unfolds the characters intersect in such a way as to appear logical,almost inevitable to the reader. There is humor and pathos in the character development and exposition, along with a poetical and elegant prose. A joyful read.

Joyful is a property at Yackandandah in country Victoria that was inherited by Leon Joyce; it was built by his great grandfather, used by his great aunt as a base for a Socialist Christian community, and offered by his wife to her friends as a temporary retreat, but Leon has never been there. Leon is a strange little man: a somewhat overweight rare-book seller who is obsessed with female beauty, but in a completely asexual way. Tess Wachowicz is a beautiful musician and radio presenter who is decidedly promiscuous. But when Leon dresses Tess in a Ralph Lauren halter-neck from his collection, their fate is sealed. Their unlikely marriage seems to work: Leon worships her beauty, finds he can even manage to be affectionate, and Tess takes her lust elsewhere. When Tess dies of cancer, Leon is devastated. Desperate to keep his connection to her, he pores over anything associated with Tess and stumbles on evidence of a lover, a man for whom she evicted her Kurdish friends from Joyful. Professor Emmanuel Delli and his wife, Daanya, a paediatrician, are also grieving as both their son and daughter have died violent deaths. In Yackandandah, the Professor’s dysfunctional reactions, now escalating into madness, have alienated the community. Also living in Yackandandah is Tess’s Polish lover, Daniel, part of a strange little threesome including his lover, Emily and her husband Gareth. When Leon heads to Joyful, their paths are eventually bound to cross. Hillman gives the reader a diverse cast of support characters: a swearing priest; a delightful pair of indigenous squatters; a determined shop manager; an exasperating psychotherapist; a sympathetic researcher, a pragmatic policeman, an infatuated great aunt, a progressive father. This book is filled with beautiful descriptive prose: “The paddocks along the highway were fawn and wilted yellow after a summer of ferocious heat. Bony outcrops of granite glittered on the hillsides, the fabric of earth worn away like the elbows of an ancient garment.” and “The foliage of the trees became a theatre of silhouettes, growing blacker as the night deepened. The moon formed a sharper and sharper arc halfway up the sky until it seemed too distinct to be merely natural. As the hours passed the stars thickened. By midnight they looked as crafted as the moon.” and “It was as if the message of his aversion had reached her after a technical delay in which it circled the earth blindly twice or fifty times, and was only now having its impact.” are just a few examples. Hillman endows Leon with the sort of madness that is only possible for the independently wealthy, but also gives him plenty of words of wisdom: “…victims are often ambitious. They write themselves into whatever drama they can find.” and “The passions of the timid were as punishing as those of the extroverted.” and “It was true of many people that the best of them only ever comes to life in the imagination of another.” This novel touches on mental disorders, on grief and loss, and on the plight of Kurds; it features heartbreak, jealousy, distress, shame and obsession; Utopias, Islam and the work of Wordsworth also play a part. The subject matter could make for heavy going, but there is humour and there is hope to give balance. This decidedly original novel will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned. A moving and very enjoyable read.

This book is so thin a lot of it seems to be taken from pocket medicine. I don't think this is worth the paper it's printed on and further more I can't believe I threw my money away. Hanna's clinicians guide to cardiology is so much better to bad it's not as portable. But gosh I wish I would've looked elsewhere.

He was a man of sensitivity and refinement who remained humble in spite of celebrity and wealth. He was known in acting circles for his kindness and generosity. He was a good man.Daniel J. Watermeier has written a biography of Edwin Booth that captures the essence of the man. The book is well written and thoroughly researched. Still, the book left me wanting. Booth's relationship with his father gets great attention here. Edwin spent six years traveling with his father and learning the actor's craft from a master. Their relationship was generally warm and loving. But what about his mother and siblings? They receive far less attention, perhaps because there simply isn't much information available. Students of the Lincoln Assassination will find little here. Watermeier explores how the assassination effected Edwin Booth. This is, after all, not a biography of his ill-fated younger brother.Too much time is spent on Edwin's performances--he played this part in this play at this theater in this city on this date, and here is what the reviewers had to say. This grows tedious.Still, this is a rare thing: an intelligent, scholarly biography of Edwin Booth, the greatest actor of the last half of the 19th Century. Students of theater history or of the Booth family will find it rewarding.

In it, Watermeier provides a full and balanced picture of Edwin Booth as a son, husband, father, and — most importantly — a man of the theatre. As Booth was the most important American actor of the nineteenth century, this biography rightly focuses attention on Booth as a performer, rather than a subsidiary member of a scandalous family.The book gives the reader details of Booth’s performances that allow you to really see how his productions might have looked on stage. Throughout his study, Watermeier puts Booth’s performances into the context of the social, cultural, and theatrical landscape of the nineteenth century. Additionally, Watermeier demonstrates how Booth’s life experiences affected his work on the stage, taking into account how Booth’s mental and physical state affected his performances. By Jerry Edwards I always look forward to the next Jim Korkis book because he writes so well and the contents are accurate and informative, without forgetting that it helps to include humor and entertainment. There have been many books over the years with info on the numerous Disney Animated Feature Films, but this one is unique because it is what it says on the cover A DISNEY HISTORIAN FUN FACT BOOK. Although I consider myself knowledgeable about the Disney films due to being a huge fan over the years, Jim always comes up with a new way to look at the films that reminds me there's STILL A LOT OF DISNEY that I didn't know. I enjoyed the summation of each film, the "Behind The Animation" info, and the "Quotable Quotes". I haven't re-watched most of the Disney animation classics in years, but this book has inspired me to watch them all at least one more time. A fun, informative book that I expect to re-read in the future.

By Wulfstan This is the most entertaining Disney animated film guide I have ever read! Well known and respected Disney Historian Jim Korkis takes us on a tour of every Disney Animated Feature Film ever released- from Snow White to Big Hero 6. The concept is "Everything I Know I Learned from ...." but the real story is a very cool film guide. Each film is covered by a short synopsis, some cool and interesting trivia, and then some quotable quotes. Along the way, Jim takes us by some Disney film you might not have seen- such as "Fun & Fancy Free" (1947) (You might have seen part of this with Mickey & Donald doing Jack and the Beanstalk), "Melody Time" (1948) and others.Some cool quotes "That age old question; what would happen if you gave a yo-yo to a flock of flamingos?""The Best Way to Learn is to do it."Interesting trivia- The Beatles were originally supposed to voice the Vultures in "Jungle Book" (take at look at them, the resemblance is there!).Cinderella was the first film to have all of the "Nine Old Men" work on it- and Walt's favorite piece of animation is the magic dress scene.Bob McLain's little (or, not so little now) Theme Park press has again hit one out of the ballpark with this guide, sure to delight fans of Disney Animated films!

Pugh 2015 sucked with the loss of David Letterman's show, Jon Stewart's Daily show and with Donald Trump's presidential run going from funny to fearful. Thank you, thank you Dave Barry for your 2016 Calendar. I cheated and read Jan. 1, 2016 on Dec. 31, 2015. I'm sure it will get me through the 2016 election year.

By Steve I have ordered a Dave Barry calendar for many years and find it very difficult to tear off only one page a day he is that good. I also have purchased or have had given to me every book that he has ever written. Obviously I consider Dave Barry one of my very favorite authors and wish he had not retired from his column (but how can anyone keep up the pace of his humor as long as he has?).

Elizabeth Hilts picks up where she left off last year, and in great style By Paige Ellen I bought this calendar, the 2015 edition for my wife for Christmas. She prides herself on being a bitch. There's a funny story about how I learned that, but it is too long to tell here. As the year went by, I saw she wasn't really using it, so I, a transwoman, appropriated it for my own use, with her permission, of course.I found it to be full of wonderful, pithy sayings and quotes from famous women. I belong to a transgender support group and often found myself sharing some day's reading with the group.This year's edition just picks up where Elizabeth Hilts left off. This is a daily dose of good advice, things to ponder and some down right funny quotes. I like having a daily calendar, have ever since I was in Viet Nam and counting the days to my date for going home. This calendar, I am happy to say, is much more relevant and helpful and gives a potential pick-me-up for every day.BTW, my wife has declared me to be a true Bitch, in the best sense of the word, so I can, with some authority, recommend this calendar to any woman.
