What appears like a sleepy town on the surface is far from it once you look below the surface. In this summary by Eureka Books (think DETAILED review) we learn that there are four main characters who are married couples: Grace and Eddie, Madeline and Trevor.Madeline is a writer, Grace is building an epic garden and Eddie is in financial trouble unable to repay a loan from Trevor and Madeline. The couple's kids are also featured with their various relationships. Grace is attracted to the gardener and untrue rumors are circulating regarding Eddie and Madeline. Madeline who has already received the money for her next book in advance is lacking ideas so writes a story about Grace and the gardener. The editor loves it but Madeline feels great conviction over what she has done. There are quite a few characters involved in the original novel hence the nine 'Main Character' bios. The 'Character Analysis' section is very informative delving a little deeper into Madeline, Grace, Eddie and their twin daughters, Hope and Allegra. In 'Character Relationships' four friendships/relationships are dissected.SO what are the 'Themes' in this book? Adultery, betrayal, family, gossip, friendship, ethics, fame, wealth and self-reflections. Yep! Some real juicy ones in this one with great information.PLEASE NOTE that this book by Eureka Books is a summary ONLY albeit a good one, giving the reader an in-depth glimpse into what the original novel is all about. The original novel is definitely not for everyone and that is where this book really comes into its own. If it is required reading by book club etc. you can read this summary and get a wonderful gist of what the story is along with all the spoilers without having to troll through the original. Of course, if you like this type of fiction and just need a refresher on the original then this is a great option for you.Book provided in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Liz

Gray Given that The Rumor is one of the better novels that I read this year, I purchased this companion in order to get a better understanding of the material. I’ve used Eureka Books before and the intelligent writing, distilling down of chapter materials, and overall provision of insight has always been spot on. This one is definitely no different, especially the major symbols breakdown. I enjoyed the insight regarding the themes as well, giving me a greater knowledge of Eddie especially as he toils away to ensure support for his family and the anchoring plot devices of wealth, betrayal, and gossip. Another note is that this book does a wonderful job at describing the character relationships in a way that provides a concise and better understanding of the individuals themselves. Now that I have this summary and analysis as a point of reference for The Rumor I definitely have a better grasp on the author’s intentions and meaning; something that has only magnified my appreciation for the novel itself.

This summary lays out the entire novel in an orderly, easy-to-follow fashion. The summary begins with a high-level overview of the novel, highlighting main characters and significant plot development. I was able to grasp the entire plot after just a few page turns. The summary does well to provide enough detail on the main turning points in the story to bring to light the significance of key events, while not wasting time on the fluff and filler. Following the overview, the summary includes a brief description of the most important characters, as well as their key struggles within the story, followed by a more in-depth look into the themes of the novel. Overall, this read was well worth my time.
