Abit disappointed as the recommendations are traditional By Amazon Customer Abit disappointed as the recommendations are traditional, nothing fantastic and like 'you don't say' type of result. And not sure if the trials that leads to the recommendations are updated. in that case, i would prefer to update via journals and not through books. if you have extra cash, may well invest in the journals.

I did not keep it.

And that is (swear to Zeus) my last gambling book purchase. Just as some people have a gambling addiction, I have a gambling book addiction. I keep thinking that the next gambling book will reveal to me the Holy Grail System. We all want to be winners (except for people who use gambling to reinforce their inadequacy complex and subconsciously lose to validate their victim status in life; not that I'd know anything about that). Even though I currently don't gamble, I might return to it some day. A long time ago, I used to play blackjack with my smart computer science friends who demanded that I always play perfect basic strategy and follow the card count. Wow, how exciting. And that dear readers is the crux of nearly all blackjack books/systems. You can not deviate from basic-to-advanced strategy; you must determine whether or not the deck is positive, and you can only bet up if the deck is positive. Well, this book by Roger LeBlanc is either genius or folly. He doesn't follow other blackjack books' strategies. I know that computer simulation models would probably dispell the system offered up in this book; however, should I ever find myself sitting down at a blackjack table again, I hope to follow his system. Why? His system is grandma simple. I can play his system without an advanced degree in math. What about the odds? The odds are for the long run. I might get to a casino for a few hours twice a year. Here's a secret: if the dealer is in Hoover-o-matic mode, your perfect strategy and positive count won't help much. If the dealer is losing, then LeBlanc's system with an increase-bets-as-you-win strategy might cover your other expenses for the trip. Counterpoint: if you are looking to make a living from blackjack, then perhaps another book might be a better starting point. Counterpoint to counterpoint: if you are unfamiliar with blackjack but want to play and just have some fun and possible luck, then this book is a great place to help you get a running start.

By Cleveland, Ohio I always enjoy new blackjack books to see what the unsung veterans of the game have discovered and what secrets they are willing to part with, but this is not the book for anyone who is looking for new winning strategies. After reading it through once and scanning it back and forth, I was unable to find a system at all. A few strategy points that differ from basic strategy (and most not in a good way, IMHO) and loads of generic (and sometimes contradictory) general advice told over and over and over again. Like the author, I don't count cards and never have, yet I have been fairly successful in my Vegas trips. I was looking for some sort of betting system or rationale, and there is none to be had in this book. Straight bets down the line. I don't know anybody who wins without varying one's bets, either because of mathematical expectation (card counting) or a betting progression system. Otherwise, that house edge grinds you down to nothing. I guess for someone who has never played blackjack or been to a casino, this book could be helpful in knowing what to expect and how to act when you get there, but as far as playing instruction goes, he could have written it on a flyer. The author doesn't touch upon any sort of situational basic strategy at all. In fairness, I agree with the way he handles bust hands (hard 15's and 16's), which deviates from the accepted basic strategy, but that's it.

It the dives into the author's personal experiences playing different hands and it offers his own strategy of play. I read this book while on a cruise and ended winning $500 in a BJ tournament. His advice are priceless and you may even win money from it!

I just read "Princess Daisy's Wish" to my two K-1 aged daughters. Usually I have to explain the story after reading it. Not this time. They wanted so much for Daisy to have a mother, but they didn't want her to lose father in the bargain. Daisy delivered an important life's message. We can't expect our lives to be perfect, but if we make unselfish decisions sometimes life takes care of us when we no longer have the power to do things ourselves. Great childrens' story but it has relevance for adults too. You're reaching people. Never stop doing that.Scott Grant

By Richard and Liz Princess Daisy had many things but the one thing she really wished for was a mother. (Hers died soon after Daisy's birth.) Princess Daisy had been raised by her father and nursemaid who were very good to her but she often imagined what it would be like to have a mother.When Daisy was twelve, her father had to go to war. Would he ever come back? When given the opportunity for one wish to be granted, will Princess Daisy ask for a mother or something else?A great lesson in this well-written and illustrated book for young independent readers or as a read-aloud. WONDERFUL ending! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Her mother died long ago and she has plenty of people to care for her but she longs for her mother. Daisy's father, the king, has to go away to war and she is frightened that he will not return.A fairy, Bloom, grants Daisy a wish. She wishes for peace so her father can return. When he returns he bring the duchess. The duchess is soon to be Daisy's new mother and all is well in the kingdom.This story is a nice read to book or a book for a young reader. It has beautiful illustrations throughout.

June Foray has been the voice of Rocky the Squirrel and Natasha in the Bullwinkle TV series, as well as Granny in Warner Brothers' Looney Toons cartoons about Tweety and Sylvester. But there's another side to her, too. Turns out she's got a terrific sense of humor and a gift for the written word, and has combined those talents in this hilarious volume that makes us think twice about the meaning of phrases we've used all our lives. After reading this book, those phrases don't have the same meaning anymore. It has short chapters, so I propose that every doctor's waiting room should keep this book out for their patients. It'll make them forget their physical woes as they laugh along with June.

They can be enjoyed by children of varying ages. We have 8 children from newborn to age 13 at home and, except for the newborn, all of them enjoy the variety of pictures and coloring them. It makes a great activity for younger children while you prayerfully work through the consecration.

Wilson If you have read the Barefoot Gen books or seen the films, 1 & 2, you must have had many questions about the author, Keiji Nakazawa's, life. Was life really that tough in Japan before August 6, 1945? What was Gen's father doing home instead of fighting the war? Was it all really true, about siblings and father and mother? What did artistic license allow Nakazawa to include and leave out? Did Gen marry, have children? What does "Gen" really feel about the "Imperial system?" How difficult was it in Japan to tell the truth about what really happened to the city of Hiroshima and its people under the atomic bomb explosion and in the aftermath? Would you marry an atomic bomb victim? This is an excellent book for adults and younger people who wish to know the truth about what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And then to consider what is right for the world. This story of the "real Gen" needed to be told. Richard Minear has done a great job editing and translating. Keiji Nakazawa died December 19, 2012, at age 73.

It's heartbreaking, beautiful, passionate and a powerful salute to the human spirit. I read it in less than an afternoon and felt like a different person when I was finished. It's THAT moving.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Must-read for fans, but choppy translation By Cynthia Jewell I really enjoyed this book, and found it to help fill the gaps in the comic series. (I read all 10.) It was nice to read this text-only autobiography, because the author could get into a deeper place with the things that happened, in ways you cannot when tied to the visual medium. For instance, in the manga, the author must have a character explain openly the motives of a person, when in text, this can remain as inner thoughts, not spoken aloud. Because of this, the book felt richer in some ways than the manga. It was also good to learn exactly where the author took liberties to keep the manga flowing -- in short, I was glad to get the facts straight.I agree with a few other reviewers that the prose of the book itself was a bit lacking -- it helps to know this ahead of time and ignore it. It felt like the English translator either spoke Japanese as his first language, or got caught up with the choppy nature of translation, and didn't go back to smooth things into a more English-style of writing. Only very occasionally were there moments of "poetry" where a few lovely metaphors came through -- it made me wonder if the original was more beautiful to read.Overall, I'm very glad I read it. If you are a fan of the comics, then this is a must-read.

By cc2015 After falling in love with adult coloring books (and realizing how relaxing they can be!), I bought another one of Emma Bloom's coloring books. Once again, the quality is truly fantastic and there are a variety of drawings to color in, from simple to complex, from a small pattern to one that spreads out through the entire page.The patterns/pictures are printed on good quality, plain white paper, and there is one design per page, so there's no worry about colors bleeding onto the back of the page. Plus, cutting a pattern out and using it as decoration for your wall or scrapbook is definitely an option!In the author's comment in the beginning, she suggested that we cut off the back cover of the book to put under the page we are working on so the color doesn't bleed through. I actually find that ink bleeding through isn't a huge problem for me! I use the Stabilo point 88 pens (they're very similar to ultra fine markers/fineliners) to color the pictures in and it did not bleed through the paper. I've also used Sharpie as well (and other permanent markers), but simply putting another sheet of paper underneath the one you're working on will suffice. The paper in the book can take quite a lot.Overall, this is a high quality adult coloring book. There are over 50 pictures in this particular book, which can bring you hours and hours of fun and relaxation! I love it when I have time to sit with a cup of tea, some markers or colored pencils, some classical music, and this book... It is the perfect way to unwind and relax for me.

Wonderful coloring book with intricate artwork - one picture per page By TFLReader I know that adult coloring books are all the rage now but I have been searching these out for quite some time as they serve quite a few purposes for me. They keep me occupied when my mind is racing and I find them to be a great stress reliever. Also, my mother has recently been placed in an adult rehab to rebuilt her dexterity and strength and we have been using them for those purposes as well. I purchased several of Emma Bloom's adult coloring books as I have found them to be some of the best quality.As for the book itself, there are more than 50 pages of varied and imaginative artwork that I have found hours of enjoyment with. Here are few things to know about this particular book:1. There is one illustration per page on medium weight, bright white paper. There are no page numbers listed on the pages, which is what I prefer as you may wish to give away or display your work.2. The illustrations are varied from different geometric shapes to complex mandalas. It would be hard to find something not to love in this book.3. I have used both colored pens and pencils in my work with these and both are useful depending on the particular picture that you are working on. If using pens, I often put another piece of paper behind the picture so that the colors don't bleed through.Whether you are just getting started with adult coloring books, are using them for relaxation purposes, or for any other therapeutic means, this is definitely one of the best I have found and I can't recommend it enough after several purchases.

About the Author Larry Moran was born in Indianapolis and grew up in Carmel, Indiana. He was a newspaper reporter in the state for nine years, covering everything from sports to presidential politics. In 1971, he moved to the Washington, DC, area, where, for thirty-three years, he was an economist, public information officer, and media spokesperson for a federal government agency. Mr. Moran previously published a collection of eight short stories of terror, suspense, mystery, humor, and surprise. He is currently working on two novels and a collection of his poetry. He is an avid but awful golfer and a tournament bridge player. His other interests include American political history, the history and culture of the American West, baseball, music, and magic.

I loved reading about this large By Mary C I loved reading about this large, family and their adventures while growing up in “small town” America in the '40s and ‘50s. Mr. Moran’s fond recollections of those days were at times side-splitting with their lighthearted mischief. At the same time it showed they had lots of good times and they were loved for who they were. I would have liked to live near them.
