About the Author Rick Love (PhD, Fuller Theological Seminary) is an internationally recognized expert in Christian-Muslim relations. How to bear witness to the peace of heaven breaking in today By Kathy Maskell Rick Love’s Peace Catalysts distills the wisdom of a lifetime of experience as a peacemaker and a bridge-builder among religiously and ideologically diverse communities. Combining clear, biblical conceptual analysis with a wealth of personal stories about struggle and victory, he argues compellingly that “reconciliation is a journey, not an achievement.” As a pastor, I believe this book is a timely and essential tool not only for churches deliberately oriented towards justice-making, but all of our churches at large.As Rick rightly describes, God's peace, or shalom, "encompasses social justice." The activity of peacemaking that leads to justice-making results in a net gain for the individual as well as the community. In this spirit, Peace Catalysts offers a fresh take on bridge building and fruitful collaborations between those "believers and non believers" for the sake of the common good— Love rightly puts his finger no the wealth of opportunities that are made possible when both parties are groaning for peaceable cities.I also appreciate Rick’s non-sentimental approach when he poignantly highlights through his personal successes and failures in corporate, diplomatic, and familial contexts that not all peacemaking leads to “peace achieving,” and therefore not all bridge-building will necessarily lead to restorative justice. Moraine If you've thought of "peace" and "peacemaking" as relatively minor themes in scripture -- significant, but not central to Jesus' message and ministry -- Peace Catalysts will undoubtedly open your eyes and change your perspective.Dr. Love explores what the bible says about peace and it's symbiotic relationship with the kingdom of God (God's rule and reign). As Dr. Love points out, peace, in God's economy, is much more than the absence of conflict. Peace (shalom) is present, when "things are the way they are supposed to be" in our relationship with God, with other people and in our world.Peace therefore is multifaceted, encompassing not only the ministry of reconciliation and forgiveness in our relationship with God and others, but also extending to issues of social justice and how we relate to faith groups and social groups that are different from our own. Peace is the goal of the kingdom, the way of the kingdom, and the fruit of the kingdom. Peace is the result of God's mercy and love breaking into our lives and world.Filled with biblical insight, scriptural principles, personal stories, and practical wisdom, Peace Catalysts demonstrates how we can work for peace as representatives of Christ's kingdom in our families, churches, and communities. How to Follow the Prince of Peace By Gary F VanderPol There is growing recognition among evangelical Christians that being part of God's mission includes both proclaiming and demonstrating the Gospel. It is now easy to find Bible-believing Christians involved in fighting sex trafficking, making microfinance loans to the global poor, and caring for creation through reducing their carbon footprints. But despite Jesus' role as the Prince of Peace, evangelicals have often left peacemaking to Catholics, mainline Protestants, and the historic "peace churches."That is why Dr. Rick Love's Peace Catalysts is so valuable. Dr. Love brings his years of experience interacting with the Muslim world to bear on his compelling plea for peacemaking as crucial expression of the gospel. This book brings combines balanced biblical treatment of shalom, valuable insights for practitioners and compelling personal stories. The book is especially strong in the way is deals with peacemaking on a number of levels, including family relationships, organizational dynamics, interfaith mistrust, and our worst enemies, even terrorists.
