When anyone is diagnosed with a long term, chronic, and debilitating disease such as Parkinson’s disease, it can be devastating. The uncertainty of the future can be extremely difficult to deal with. This book is meant to share one family’s experience with Parkinson’s. This book is not a medical treatise but rather a book filled with suggestions that will help the reader cope with the disease over a long period of time. The most important lesson I learned from having the disease for 26 years is to keep a positive mental attitude. This book also discusses deep brain stimulation surgery and how the surgery helped me. The book covers the whole 26 years my family has lived with Parkinson’s disease. Proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Parkinson's Disease Foundation's research programs. Dr. Zimmerman earned his doctorate in special education from the University of Cincinnati. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1988 when he was 42 years old. He was the superintendent of a county board of Mental Retardation. He was able to work for the next 16 years until his retirement in 2004. He retired when he was 58 years old at which time he was diagnosed with cancer. He has spent his retirement volunteering at the local hospital and various other organizations. He has been trained as a Research Advocate for the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation. He lives with his wife and they are the parents of 6 independent children.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding truth!! By Steven Schumacher I just completed Dr. Zimmerman's book and found it insightful and extremely honest. Not qualities you see in all new books and/or movies. I have had the privilege of knowing Dr. Zimmerman and his family when he discovered he had Parkinson's at a young age. And' the fear that ensued when he found the writings on this topic were very limited for younger men and women. And the results nearly always negative. As the book points out he took the disease as a challenge; and challenge it he did. And outstanding book on a tough subject. My hat is off to Bob and his family on the writing of this book.
