About the Author Frank Huisman is a member of the faculty in the history department at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands. He is author of "Stadsbelang en standsbesef: Gezondheidszorg en medisch beroep in Groningen, 1500-1730."John Harley Warner is professor and chair of the history of medicine and science at Yale University, where he is also professor of American studies and history. He is the author of "The Therapeutic Perspective: Medical Practice, Knowledge, and Identity in America" and "Against the Spirit of System: The French Impulse in Nineteenth-Century American Medicine," the latter available from Johns Hopkins.
