About the Author Paul Erickson's mission in life is to become the world's foremost nerd parodist. Erickson was born in 1959, and has lived his entire life in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park. He read "The Hobbit" in grade school, and at the end of high school saw "Star Wars" nine times, twice on opening night. Later, while out of work in 2009, he kept busy by writing a parody of his favorite book: "The Hobbit." Erickson titled his book "The Wobbit A Parody" and sold it on Amazon starting in 2011. "The Wobbit A Parody" was discovered, translated and published as a German paperback in 2012 by Munich publisher Piper Verlag. They published Erickson’s second parody, "The Superfriends Of The Ring" in 2013. The parodies are also available in Turkish and Russian. At the end of 2014 Erickson's German publishers requested that he suspend his work on The Two Towers Strike Back so that he could write a George Lucas parody titled Jar Jar Wars. This new parody is intended to help Lucas (writer-director of the films THX 1138 and American Graffiti) finally get the recognition he deserves for a science fiction/fantasy film he did in 1977.

If you're looking for a great satire on a classic franchise, then this book is for you. I love the depictions of my favorite characters and the interesting points brought up about some of the peculiarities you never truly notice in the movies. This book had me laughing from the moment I started reading. Simply fantastic! Very well done, Paul Erickson, another incredibly well thought out book. This is by far one of my favorite satires I have ever read and I look forward to the next book this clever author releases. Very well done.

If you've ever been bothered by nagging questions brought up by the first movie of the series -- Isn't a parsec a measurement of distance, not time? How can there be sound in space? Why do ALL blasters fail to hit their target? Why the hell didn't Chewbacca get a medal? -- you'll find the answer to these and more in "Jar-Jar Wars". Buy it and enjoy it before the new movie adds even more ridiculous ideas to the canon.

About the Author

Dick Flavin is the poet laureate and senior ambassador of the Boston Red Sox and voice of Fenway Park, serving as public address announcer for Red Sox day games. His television commentaries won seven New England Emmy Awards, he is a nationally known speaker, and is a member of the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He wrote and starred in According to Tip, the acclaimed one-man play about legendary Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill. He lives in Quincy, Massachusetts.

By Doug Miles Dick Flavin is a Massachusetts Commonwealth institution and popular TV personality who is also the Boston Red Sox PA announcer, ambassador and poet laureate for Fenway Park. His book, “Red Sox Rhymes Verses and Curses” is filled with Flavin’s verses and ballads about his beloved team, including his famous “Teddy at the Bat” which he has performed at the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Time to reconsider "The Dice Man" By David Rolfe I feel about "Dice Man" a bit like I feel about Ayn Rand's novels: Both begin in our real world and proceed to carry us towards an alternate (superior?) life structure envisioned by the author. I can't see either vision as a complete blueprint for re-forming my life, and yet the ideas are extremely thought-provoking and powerfully expressed. The orginal "Dice Man" is a great fantasy. This follow-on, set 20 years later, is a (somewhat) more realistic examination of the implications of dice living. True, it's a bit less fantastic than the original, but if you really found the dice notion interesting, you should read this as well. I enjoyed it, both for its ideas and as a novel.

This sequel comes about a quarter century after the original, but shows nothing of its antecedents. You'll search in vain for "Luke Rhinehart" here and, like me, suspect a different (and very indifferent) author. My advice is -- don't read it.

Dicapointing sequel to The Dice Man By A Customer The Search for the Dice Man picks up 20 years after the events in The Dice Man focussing on Luke's son, Larry, a successful Wall Street futures broker who has shun the dice living of his father. Chance intervenes and he finds himself searching for his father and discovering the perils and pleasures of the dice life.The narrative and style of the novel is much more conventional than that of The Dice Man, partly down to the fact that it's (mainly) written from Larry's conservative viewpoint. However this makes for a fairly ordinary, even dull read at times missing a lot of the irony and wildness of the first book. Fans of the Dice Man should still give it a look, just don't expect much of it's freshness or uniqueness.

Author-on-Author By FJNanic Unbelievable!One of the best books ever written is FREE, given only one star, and a review called STRANGE...Well, I'll quote just one part of it:"Let us beware of artificially stimulating his self-consciousness and his so-called imagination. All that we do is to pervert the child into a ghastly state of self-consciousness, making him affectedly try to show off as we wish him to show off. The moment the least little trace of self-consciousness enters in a child, good-bye to everything except falsity.Much better just pound away at the A B C and simple arithmetic and so on. The modern methods do make children sharp, give them a sort of slick finesse, but it is the beginning of the mischief. It ends in the great "unrest" of a nervous, hysterical proletariat. Begin to teach a child of five to "understand." To understand the sun and moon and daisy and the secrets of procreation, bless your soul. Understanding all the way. And when the child is twenty he'll have a hysterical understanding of his own invested grievance, and there is an end of him. Understanding is the devil."No wonder the world, as we know it, has gone mad...

By Penelope Perez The book is an ultimate guide to understand the gestures, nonverbal cues and greetings of the people around us. It tells of some relevant factors that will help us in our desire to understand and analyze people. I find the book very insightful and motivating, it is geared toward a better understanding and how the readers can do this in order to comprehend the actions of the people we meet on a day to day basis. Never having had cancer I wanted to understand it more from a patients perspective and really dive into what can be done when you are given a life threatening diagnosis. I like that this was a positive and uplifting book that was straightforward and could be helpful to anyone dealing with breast changes.

Internet 101 By Laurenzi I bought this book because a link to it showed up on my Twitter feed, it sounded like an interesting subject, and I enjoyed the sample excerpt. Remarkably, it appears to be the first proper exploration of the cultural phenomenon that is the Epic Fail. I'm like, WTF?Anyway, this brief ebook far exceeded my expectations, offering a very thoughtful and articulate analysis of a particular category of hubris, and of its often cruel aftermath. The author builds each chapter around a particular exemplum of Epic Failure, drawing not only on the internet, but also the cultural oddities of yesteryear, and events from his own past. Though eclectic, occasionally anecdotal, and often very, very funny, the book never feels scattered or unserious. Thought-provoking read.Hopefully this book will one day be on a required reading list for people applying to be allowed to use the internet.

Intelligent cultural critique intelligently written By Jake Bouma With "Epic Fail," Mark O'Connell has rocketed to the top (or near-top) of my Authors To Watch list. Although he has written for various outlets including The Millions, Slate, The Guardian, etc., this was the first longform piece of his I've read, and I was completely dazzled."Epic Fail" is intelligent cultural critique intelligently written. Like others, I read (rather, devoured) it in one sitting; I was frequently nodding in agreement and even more frequently making notes in order to preserve O'Connell's fresh insights and adroit prose. I normally hesitate to bestow five-star reviews, but for my part "Epic Fail" is a no-brainer. I've already recommended the essay both publicly and privately.To those who wish it had more of a "conclusion" or final chapter: I found that each chapter contained its own conclusions and that the piece as a whole stands on its own without need for a summation. Even those chapters that end on an ambiguous note are done so (in my opinion) intentionally -- requiring the reader to wrestle with the questions and come to his or her own conclusions.Do not be fooled; although it may look like it, this is not brainless BuzzFeed-lit. "Epic Fail" is an engaging and erudite discourse in pop clothing.

A Scholarly Analysis of the Essence of Badness By Frank McEvoy Well, I loved the books "Star-Spangled Kitsch" and "The Incomplete Book of Failures," too. O'Connell nails the topic of why awful writers, artists, musicians, and film makers are so compelling and, in their own perverse way, eternal. I mean, Amanda Ros and Julia A. Moore are perennial favorites of mine (I gave their books out for Christmas 2013 (repeatedly)). In some ways, the author discusses the nature of creativity and the artists' perspectives. When I circulated my first screenplay, which actually got some attention in Hollywood, I honestly did not know if it was any good. Julia and Amanda had no such doubts about their work. (Julia A. Moore (aka "The Sweet Singer of Michigan") had revenge on her critics: "The editors that have spoken against my work have went beyond reason." (Take that!))

41 of 42 people found the following review helpful. Great start to a new series By DIANE J I was a little wary about buying the book, I don't generally but much mystery/suspense. However, when I realized the book was by Patricia McLinn (I have really enjoyed her books in the past), I decided to give it a chance. I really enjoyed it. I read it in one sitting. I hadn't planned it that way, but just couldn't stop once I was in the middle. The characters really made me care about them. I can hardly wait for the next one in the series.

A deputy who vanishes in his pickup truck amid Wyoming mountains and a TV reporter who used to be an investigative journalist are at the core of the tale. Deputy Foster Redus, who had a way with the ladies but didn't respect them, was last seen after Thanksgiving but is still missing when Elizabeth Danniher arrives at Sherman's small TV station in April. Elizabeth had been working in NY but has been demoted since her divorce until she sorts out her life. Then a determined young girl asks her for help, despite the fact that the help she gives is officially limited to consumer affairs.Tamanda Burrell thinks her father is unfairly blamed for the deputy's disappearance - he has lost business and friends, and will lose joint custody of Tamanda if his ex-wife has her way. Redus had been seeing Tamanda's mother, giving Burrell motive. Only a brusque investigation was carried out by the sheriff and Elizabeth has to wonder why the local law enforcement wasn't more interested in finding one of their own. Aided by Mike, a younger reporter who wants mentoring, she hones her rusty investigative skills and interviews everyone in town. Mike's aunt who works in the sheriff's office is a source of unofficial gossip and Deputy Alvarez is also helpful, but the more influential citizens generally stymie the reporters. The women Redus had been with somehow each believe he was coming back for them, though resentful of his other conquests. Then Redus's truck and body are found pushed off a mountain road, and matters take a more sinister turn.The setting is excellently described, from the struggle to make ranches pay to the mineral resources, the artery-clogging food and long empty sweeping vistas. Elizabeth is a sympathetic and believable character as is Mike, a ball player who retired when his knees gave trouble, but has plenty of resources and brains to carry on his second career. And behind the scenes at the TV station is never dull, what with the anchorman and other reporters afraid Elizabeth will steal their careers and sabotaging her slots, but the stalwart camera operator Diana supporting her.I spotted a few twists being flagged, and found it hard to believe that a young man would be so upset by the secret of his sexuality being discovered that he would kill himself - would he not just go to work in a city? But bullying does cause deaths among young people and it may be that this could happen in Wyoming. I also found the ending less than believable with the reporters managing to get important personages on camera while they accused someone of murder. Wouldn't they all say no comment, want my lawyer, get out? But maybe she couldn't think of another way to force the sheriff's hand.McLinn was editor at the Washington Post for more than 20 years and has many previous books to her credit. Crime fans will agree that this is an excellent read, turning quickly from light to tragic and with plenty of human touches.

Unable to resist her curiosity (and Tamantha Burrell), Elizabeth Danniher and sportscaster Mike Paycik look into the disappearance of Deputy Foster Redus. Did he leave under his own volition? Or did Foster meet with foul play? Their investigation exposes corruption, dirty politics and secrets that might just drive a person to kill to keep hidden.Elizabeth Danniher's exile in small town Sherman, WY is only a temporary setback following her divorce and the subsequent loss of her network job. Dealing with the petty jealousies of an insecure anchorman and some of her co-workers, Elizabeth is trying to make a success of her "Helping Out" segment. When second grader Tamantha Burrell approaches Elizabeth and asks her to help prove her father's innocence in Foster's disappearance, Elizabeth is reluctantly drawn into investigating the unsolved case. The further she delves into the case, the more inconsistencies she uncovers in the original investigation and she easily slips back into full investigative journalist mode. Stonewalled by the police and hindered by interoffice feuds, Elizabeth is determined to uncover the truth surrounding Foster's untimely disappearance. When Mike Paycik offers her an inside track to information, Elizabeth reluctantly joins forces with the ambitious sportscaster.Elizabeth is a beautiful developed and engaging protagonist. She is caring and compassionate with an innate sense of justice. Trying to adjust to rural living is not easy and as she navigates uncharted territory, Elizabeth provides a humorous view of the inner workings of a television station, small town life and its politics.Equally likeable is the charming and resourceful Mike Paycik. Mike is a local man who returned to Sherman after a knee injury ended his football career. His interest in Elizabeth is more than professional (much to her dismay) and I enjoyed the byplay between them as they delve into mystery surrounding the missing deputy.Deputy Foster Redus is a completely reprehensible character. With motives and suspects quickly piling up, Elizabeth and Mike go round and round in circles trying to figure out who had the most compelling reason to get rid of the despicable deputy.Sign Off is an entertaining story with a compelling storyline and a wonderful cast of characters. The mystery aspect of the novel is especially well done with many twists and turns and a suspect list a mile long. P.A. McLinn has a fabulous writing style and she brings the small town of Sherman, WY and its inhabitants vibrantly to life. I am eager to see what lies ahead for Elizabeth, Mike, and the other residents I met in this wonderful first installment of the Caught Dead in Wyoming series.An excellent beginning to a promising new series that I highly recommend.I received a complimentary copy for review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good read By Snowbunny1977 Mace is a rough sort....in a way. He's a biker and alpha so definitely rough around the edges. It shows in his attitude lol. So, I liked Mace but I wouldnt have forgiven him so easily for denying her and being as cruel as he was to her. Those words had to hurt her saying she might not have been worth the trouble...ouch. I didnt see him apologizing to her for those remarks. He claimed her yes but I dont think she would have been so accommodating if she wasnt in her breeding cycle. Needless to say they are bonded but he's got some making up to do for sure. Also, I didnt like her dad Colm that much. He's a bully obviously to discount her and Mace being mates. They were friends...really good friends and I dunno just didnt make sense that there would be a challenge to the death. Not when the truth was staring her dad in the face...hello mates. I know this was a short but there was almost too much detail for it to be so short. Thats my negative feelings on it. I think it could have easily been a novella like her others.

By Brandon Parshall This book does a great job explaining strategies that I as a beginner was able to learn quickly. After I read the book, I actually played my brother in chess who has plays regularly with his wife, and I beat him three times in a row before he refused to play me again. The illustrations in the book are great to help show what the author is trying to describe, and it made it very easy for me as a beginner to learn.
