After reading this book, I am definitely recommending this to him. I think the best part about this book is that the method is all natural, and you don't have to go to the extremes or do anything insane in order to achieve the desired results. I also like how the author starts off by explaining the science behind diabetes so that his readers understand it 100%. It's really fascinating to me that by changing small things in your lifestyle, you can cure (or even avoid) type two diabetes! Even if you don't have diabetes, this is a great book to read as there are many tips in here that can help you lead a healthier lifestyle overall.

By Amazon Customer This book was extremely well written, explaining the complex physiology of type 2 diabetes in small nuggets of information, which were continually reinforced as new information was introduced, so that by the end of the first part the reader not only gained a basic understanding of type 2 diabetes, but could already anticipate how to make the dietary and lifestyle changes necessary to reverse the root cause of the disease rather than merely treat the lifelong symptoms. The illustrations, tables and charts were relevant, clear and concise. An added bonus was the collection of the personal recipes of the author, simple, easy-to-follow and appealing even to a non-diabetic! His own experience with other therapies and in following this program was companionably present but never intrusive, and he encourages the reader to adapt the program to suit individual, personalized preferences while working with a doctor, stringently monitoring intake and blood glucose to see the positive effects of following the program, and retaining an awareness of the roles the liver and potassium play in the cure of the disease. I would recommend this book to anyone who has type 2 diabetes themselves or in their family, as I do, as well as to anyone who is interested in basic information about the disease and a generally unrecognized but effective strategy to cure it. Hundreds of thousands of people could profit from implementing the advice in this book!

Didn't Reach Potential By 125Pages *I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.Original review posted on www.125pages.wordpress.comLeon Joyce is a complicated non-complicated man. He does not feel traditional desire in the sexual manner but feels immensely towards objects of beauty. One of these objects is Tess Wachowicz; a women who fits his aesthetic ideal. He marries her knowing she has dalliances but is mostly content that they are meaningless and she only loves him. Upon her death he hears rumors of her loving another and the search for the truth takes him on an unexpected journey.I really wanted to like this book, the premise was intriguing and I wanted to be drawn into this world. Unfortunately this was not the case. It took three times to get past the first twenty pages, and then it was a forced read to the end. None of the characters drew me in, unfortunately they were almost universal portrayed as pretty horrible. I kept hoping for some redeeming qualities or someone I could latch on to, but alas that never happened. The story was very full with description, way too much description. Sentence after sentence describing items and things made the read draining. One sentence alone had thirty-eight items described. I was half way thru and felt I had already read a War and Peace type tome. If you cut out the extra ¼ of the book that was used to describe things and gave Leon some quality that you could root for this could be an excellent read. Joyful had the potential to be an incredible read but sadly fell short for me.

By Denise Cameron An intense and angst -ridden exploration of the effects of grief so consuming, so overwhelming, that the matters of subsistence are sublimated to the relentless waves of emotion.Most scenes are set in rural Victoria and deal with characters so flawed they fit together as do pieces in a well used jigsaw. As the narrative unfolds the characters intersect in such a way as to appear logical,almost inevitable to the reader. There is humor and pathos in the character development and exposition, along with a poetical and elegant prose. A joyful read.

Joyful is a property at Yackandandah in country Victoria that was inherited by Leon Joyce; it was built by his great grandfather, used by his great aunt as a base for a Socialist Christian community, and offered by his wife to her friends as a temporary retreat, but Leon has never been there. Leon is a strange little man: a somewhat overweight rare-book seller who is obsessed with female beauty, but in a completely asexual way. Tess Wachowicz is a beautiful musician and radio presenter who is decidedly promiscuous. But when Leon dresses Tess in a Ralph Lauren halter-neck from his collection, their fate is sealed. Their unlikely marriage seems to work: Leon worships her beauty, finds he can even manage to be affectionate, and Tess takes her lust elsewhere. When Tess dies of cancer, Leon is devastated. Desperate to keep his connection to her, he pores over anything associated with Tess and stumbles on evidence of a lover, a man for whom she evicted her Kurdish friends from Joyful. Professor Emmanuel Delli and his wife, Daanya, a paediatrician, are also grieving as both their son and daughter have died violent deaths. In Yackandandah, the Professor’s dysfunctional reactions, now escalating into madness, have alienated the community. Also living in Yackandandah is Tess’s Polish lover, Daniel, part of a strange little threesome including his lover, Emily and her husband Gareth. When Leon heads to Joyful, their paths are eventually bound to cross. Hillman gives the reader a diverse cast of support characters: a swearing priest; a delightful pair of indigenous squatters; a determined shop manager; an exasperating psychotherapist; a sympathetic researcher, a pragmatic policeman, an infatuated great aunt, a progressive father. This book is filled with beautiful descriptive prose: “The paddocks along the highway were fawn and wilted yellow after a summer of ferocious heat. Bony outcrops of granite glittered on the hillsides, the fabric of earth worn away like the elbows of an ancient garment.” and “The foliage of the trees became a theatre of silhouettes, growing blacker as the night deepened. The moon formed a sharper and sharper arc halfway up the sky until it seemed too distinct to be merely natural. As the hours passed the stars thickened. By midnight they looked as crafted as the moon.” and “It was as if the message of his aversion had reached her after a technical delay in which it circled the earth blindly twice or fifty times, and was only now having its impact.” are just a few examples. Hillman endows Leon with the sort of madness that is only possible for the independently wealthy, but also gives him plenty of words of wisdom: “…victims are often ambitious. They write themselves into whatever drama they can find.” and “The passions of the timid were as punishing as those of the extroverted.” and “It was true of many people that the best of them only ever comes to life in the imagination of another.” This novel touches on mental disorders, on grief and loss, and on the plight of Kurds; it features heartbreak, jealousy, distress, shame and obsession; Utopias, Islam and the work of Wordsworth also play a part. The subject matter could make for heavy going, but there is humour and there is hope to give balance. This decidedly original novel will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned. A moving and very enjoyable read.

This book is so thin a lot of it seems to be taken from pocket medicine. I don't think this is worth the paper it's printed on and further more I can't believe I threw my money away. Hanna's clinicians guide to cardiology is so much better to bad it's not as portable. But gosh I wish I would've looked elsewhere.

He was a man of sensitivity and refinement who remained humble in spite of celebrity and wealth. He was known in acting circles for his kindness and generosity. He was a good man.Daniel J. Watermeier has written a biography of Edwin Booth that captures the essence of the man. The book is well written and thoroughly researched. Still, the book left me wanting. Booth's relationship with his father gets great attention here. Edwin spent six years traveling with his father and learning the actor's craft from a master. Their relationship was generally warm and loving. But what about his mother and siblings? They receive far less attention, perhaps because there simply isn't much information available. Students of the Lincoln Assassination will find little here. Watermeier explores how the assassination effected Edwin Booth. This is, after all, not a biography of his ill-fated younger brother.Too much time is spent on Edwin's performances--he played this part in this play at this theater in this city on this date, and here is what the reviewers had to say. This grows tedious.Still, this is a rare thing: an intelligent, scholarly biography of Edwin Booth, the greatest actor of the last half of the 19th Century. Students of theater history or of the Booth family will find it rewarding.

In it, Watermeier provides a full and balanced picture of Edwin Booth as a son, husband, father, and — most importantly — a man of the theatre. As Booth was the most important American actor of the nineteenth century, this biography rightly focuses attention on Booth as a performer, rather than a subsidiary member of a scandalous family.The book gives the reader details of Booth’s performances that allow you to really see how his productions might have looked on stage. Throughout his study, Watermeier puts Booth’s performances into the context of the social, cultural, and theatrical landscape of the nineteenth century. Additionally, Watermeier demonstrates how Booth’s life experiences affected his work on the stage, taking into account how Booth’s mental and physical state affected his performances. By Jerry Edwards I always look forward to the next Jim Korkis book because he writes so well and the contents are accurate and informative, without forgetting that it helps to include humor and entertainment. There have been many books over the years with info on the numerous Disney Animated Feature Films, but this one is unique because it is what it says on the cover A DISNEY HISTORIAN FUN FACT BOOK. Although I consider myself knowledgeable about the Disney films due to being a huge fan over the years, Jim always comes up with a new way to look at the films that reminds me there's STILL A LOT OF DISNEY that I didn't know. I enjoyed the summation of each film, the "Behind The Animation" info, and the "Quotable Quotes". I haven't re-watched most of the Disney animation classics in years, but this book has inspired me to watch them all at least one more time. A fun, informative book that I expect to re-read in the future.

Well known and respected Disney Historian Jim Korkis takes us on a tour of every Disney Animated Feature Film ever released- from Snow White to Big Hero 6. The concept is "Everything I Know I Learned from ...." but the real story is a very cool film guide. Each film is covered by a short synopsis, some cool and interesting trivia, and then some quotable quotes. Along the way, Jim takes us by some Disney film you might not have seen- such as "Fun & Fancy Free" (1947) (You might have seen part of this with Mickey & Donald doing Jack and the Beanstalk), "Melody Time" (1948) and others.Some cool quotes "That age old question; what would happen if you gave a yo-yo to a flock of flamingos?""The Best Way to Learn is to do it."Interesting trivia- The Beatles were originally supposed to voice the Vultures in "Jungle Book" (take at look at them, the resemblance is there!).Cinderella was the first film to have all of the "Nine Old Men" work on it- and Walt's favorite piece of animation is the magic dress scene.Bob McLain's little (or, not so little now) Theme Park press has again hit one out of the ballpark with this guide, sure to delight fans of Disney Animated films!

Pugh 2015 sucked with the loss of David Letterman's show, Jon Stewart's Daily show and with Donald Trump's presidential run going from funny to fearful. Elizabeth Hilts picks up where she left off last year, and in great style By Paige Ellen I bought this calendar, the 2015 edition for my wife for Christmas. She prides herself on being a bitch. There's a funny story about how I learned that, but it is too long to tell here. As the year went by, I saw she wasn't really using it, so I, a transwoman, appropriated it for my own use, with her permission, of course.I found it to be full of wonderful, pithy sayings and quotes from famous women. I belong to a transgender support group and often found myself sharing some day's reading with the group.This year's edition just picks up where Elizabeth Hilts left off. This is a daily dose of good advice, things to ponder and some down right funny quotes. I like having a daily calendar, have ever since I was in Viet Nam and counting the days to my date for going home. This calendar, I am happy to say, is much more relevant and helpful and gives a potential pick-me-up for every day.BTW, my wife has declared me to be a true Bitch, in the best sense of the word, so I can, with some authority, recommend this calendar to any woman.

The author seems sweet. But it was the worst written book I have ever read! My sixth grader writes better. I just could not get past the typos and grammar errors. There were lots of references to vague sources. Honestly, I could have gotten more information from the keto Facebook page. I could not believe this book was published. Fortunately, Amazon was willing to take it back. Thank you, Amazon!

It might contain great information, but it was so poorly written that I have no idea what was being discussed. Not only were there tons of typos ('fact' instead of 'fat', 'company' instead of 'complain', etc), but the sentences sounded like they were written by someone who is learning English as a second language. I spent so much time trying to understand what was being said, that I still have no idea about the diet. There was a section called, "the importance of eliminating dairy products," but the conclusion of that section says you can have dairy in moderation. Huh?!? This e-book was only $2.99, but I have requested a refund (which I have never done before) because it was just that awful. I apologize for being repetitive (although fans of this book must love repetition), but this really was the worst thing I've ever read.

I finally had to delete it about 30% of the way through. The content was so poorly presented; I just couldn't imagine any author allowing a book to go to publication in this state. Worst money I ever spent on a kindle book. In a whole other class is Keto Clarity: Your Definitive Guide to the Benefits of a Low-Carb, High-Fat Diet Kindle Edition by Eric Westman MD (Author), Jimmy Moore which I wholeheartedly recommend.

Once life permitted, I resolved to sit down and read this wonderfully quirky book, thinking that I would perhaps spread out my reading over a couple of days, but I can honestly say that I couldn't put it down any easier than if it were super-glued to my fingers. I would never have imagined the concept of Disney-meets-political-satire being so entertaining, and yet it brings a level of authenticity and gives deeper meaning to the story. SPLINTERED is utterly charming and its reworking of the story of Pinocchio is magnificent with its well-rounded plot, suspenseful undertones, and complex and NEW characters - characters that I've known for over twenty years!The author has done an amazing job of transforming and expanding a beloved, classic story, but in such a way that both honors and, in many ways, surpasses the original. I say that because when comparing Pinocchio's deepest wishes in both versions, I found myself wondering, "Which was the more worthy pursuit... wanting to be 'a real boy' or a 'real man?'" And although the original touches on the fact that Pinocchio learns morality, the meaning of sacrifice, and how to be a good son, this new version is all that AND learning to be a good father, husband, and a good, honest man in a world where there are few.I cannot say enough good things about this book and its author, and so I will leave it with these words of wisdom... "Guess feeding your boss to a whale has some benefits."Indeed, Pinocchio.... Indeed.

Best Political Satire Since “Animal Farm” By Andrew Strengths: Awesome plot, quick read, beautiful illustrations, great references to the original book, hilarious characters, snappy dialogue, hidden references for political junkies.Weaknesses: Slow start, could use more about Pinocchio’s wife, overly sentimental at times, simplistic view of congress.Great book! Kind of a sequel to “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” this takes place in modern day America and picks up with an adult Pinocchio working for a company called The Kronos Group, a powerful D.C. lobby firm headed by a Jack Abramoff-type character, Charles Stevens. Pinocchio is married, has a young son, and lives near his father, Geppepto, who is portrayed as a doddering old man with one foot in the grave. It seems that Pinocchio has forgotten that he was once a puppet, and he resents Geppepto’s telling stories about his youth to his son, Albero. Otherwise, Pinocchio is shown as a true innocent who doesn't fully understand Washington, or politics in general for that matter.The book is told from the perspective of a newspaper reporter, Max Wiggs, who wrote an article that accidentally launched Pinocchio to fame by playing up his absolute honesty. Later, it’s alluded to that Pinocchio can’t lie, and the reason it isn’t revealed until midway through the book in a hilarious way. Pinocchio, his head swimming with thoughts of fame and power, becomes disenfranchised from his family, even going so far as to throw Geppepto into a nursing home (The “Weeping Pines Retirement Center” Ha!). But slowly, Pinocchio starts to realize that Geppepto may have been telling the truth when he learns that he can talk to animals and trees. Everything comes crashing down when he tells a complete lie while giving testimony to congress and he transforms into a puppet once again. Panicked, he sets out to cure himself and learns he has to find a fairy and a cricket, only to learn the fairy is an ugly, womanizing, drunken old man, and the “talking cricket” is a slimy cockroach with thousands of children.At this point, the book takes an unexpected turn, going from a somewhat predictable story about a good man corrupted by power to something else altogether. Reading the last half is like watching an action movie – well paced, exciting, and with a really unexpected twist at the end.The writing is super strong, with memorable witticisms that remind me of Oscar Wilde’s short stories. That being said, the pacing could be better. The first hundred pages or so, while funny, is slow. But once Pinocchio becomes a puppet again, the story just takes off. The book is dripping with subtext and carries a lot of themes – parenthood, marriage, even Greek mythology (and for us political junkies, the author loads up the story with easter eggs that I think the average reader won’t get - look for the plaque on the secretary’s desk). The animal characters, in my opinion, are actually representations of humanity. They are cruel, racist, fearful, in other words, the worst of us. The remind me of the barnyard in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” another great satirical work.I do wish I could have learned more about Pinocchio’s wife. In the end, she remains a somewhat flat character. Overall, however, the characters are very true to life, the dialogue is fun, and the book is an enjoyable quick read.I had trouble with this review because, honestly, there is just so much going on in this book. Somehow, the author has managed to build a rich, colorful, new world out of characters we’ve all known for years. This book is something entirely new, and I hope a lot of readers enjoy it! Well written, engaging, and intelligent, this is excellent satire—full of humor and with some interesting and timely messages. Anthony-Pillai.It was terrible that one human mistake caused a lot of trouble and agony for Antoinette and her family throughout their lives. The loss was multiplied when you count the loss of the contributions Antoinette would have made to society as medical doctor from the University of London.Antoinette was rightfully concerned about her future. She shows the way how she and her beloved family members painfully worked through NHS system and spend personal funds to make her life better.She has made me realize what success in life is all about. Work hard, do your best and be proud and be at peace with what you have done. Her faith and life shines like a lighthouse for all of us showing direction and purpose to sail our life ship. Wonderful Resource for Family and Friends of Someone with Brain Injury By Stephanie Christopherson This book provides an inspirational and insightful view into what it's like to adjust to life after brain injury. Before the brain injury, the author was a well-liked and spirited medical student with a bright future. After the brain injury, the author still had the same outward appearance but her brain functioned much differently than it had before the brain injury. The author shares her firsthand experiences with things like finding a productive purpose for her life with her changed skill set, her personal relationship challenges, and the importance her family played on the long road of her recovery. These experiences are recounted with grace and a wonderful sense of humor. This book quickly captures your attention and is easy to read. I recommend this book for anyone, but especially for someone who wants to understand the challenges and triumphs associated with life after a brain injury.

In spite of the brain injury suffered as a result of negligence of an anaesthsiologist, when this young author went for a simple medical procedure, there is no bitterness or anger is expressed by the author. Instead she is focussed on telling the story of her struggle and determination to overcome her limitations. Mentally she was devastated as her life dreams were shattered by this accident, but she maitains a sense of humor in recounting her years of painful experience. I would recommend this book to individuals as well as their care takers, who might be living with such expereince as this author. Even to others this is a book that would make us appreciate very minute of our life.

One look at this one almost had me walking away. But something made me peek inside and man, oh man, was I hooked. Within 3 pages I knew that I was not setting this one aside until I reached the end. Within 10, I found so many sentences that "spoke" to me that I briefly considered that this might be the best way to write the review...just have a top ten of favorite quotes. Obviously I went with two that I felt provided a taste of the authors' talents and style. The writing really reached out and grabbed my attention and didn't let go! Sometimes while reading a good book, I lose interest in parts and have to push through to the next entertaining spot. While there a few people from a group come in passing out fliers for Celibacy NOW. Marshal is immediately infatuated with Luke. Luke gets in an altercation with the bar owner Ray. Todd tell Marshall that if he can get Luke in bed he will give him an extra commission. Since he was already planning to try to go out with Luke he took Todd up on the deal. There are many twists and turns along the way.I sat on the edge of my seat, eagerly waiting to see what happens next. I thought this was a very well written book. The characters were strong and believable and the story very well written with plenty of interesting twists. Just when you think it is over and sigh in pleasure, BOOM another twist.So Does Marshal win the bet? What are Luke's secrets? What is Celibacy NOW? Check out th book and find out.I recommend this book to anyone! Especially if you love a good love story, lots of twist, Interracial love interests, Sweet and hot mansex and a story that doesn't have a lot of actual sex but still makes you want them.

Marshall, the PoV character falls for Luke who has been through the emotional wringer. There's so much frustration and tension that I couldn't put the book down until I HAD to and picked it up again the moment I could. The antagonist in the story was so easy to hate, it was incredibly satisfying to watch him get what he deserves.This is a book I'll read again and certainly one I'll share with friends.

About the Author David Ritchey's vocations have included: naval officer, businessman, fine art photographer, psychotherapist, researcher, and writer. His avocations have included: scuba diving, sailing, skiing, tennis, golf, gardening, woodworking, dogs, magic, bridge, and SCRABBLE.

After being educated in economics at Yale University, he served for five years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, including a year in Vietnam. Back in civilian life, he initially became a businessman, but shortly thereafter followed his true inclinations and became a fine art photographer.

While immersed in the art world, he became fascinated by the psychology/neurology of creativity, and returned to school to train as a psychotherapist. During his 15 years of clinical practice, specializing in hypnotherapy, he became especially interested in the psychodynamics of those clients who reported having had transpersonal ("metaphysical") experiences, and undertook a twelve-year project of researching and writing about such people, who he speaks of as "Anomalously Sensitive Persons."

Later, he became his daughter's business manager at her art gallery on Cape Cod, and spent a few years involved simultaneously in the worlds of both business and art.

Now "retired," he spends his time writing about a wide range of subjects that are of special interest to him. Information about his books can be found at davidritchey-author.com.

He currently lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with his golden retriever, Katherine. He has two grown children, Harper and Mac, and a grandson, Brendan.

By BJS I really like how the author organized this book and the thoughtful way he examines conflict from the personal to the global threat it creates. It is written so that anyone can read it and can a deeper understanding of the history of human conflict and how we have the ability to make choices to change our role in it. It is also a great book for any student of Conflict Resolution. I highly recommend it!

Though at times disturbing, it delves into a part of human nature that is ever present no matter what age we are from toddlers to the elderly. Written with a matter of fact, no nonsense approach, Mr. Ritchey brings the reality of this emotion to the table. But most importantly, he then offers a look at approaches in understanding how to rectify and bring about peace "within" to accomplish the peace "without". Managing conflict is a learned "experience". We have to understand the world we live in as adults but how we parent our children may very well determine the future of the world at large.I found myself rereading chapters and have been deeply moved by the intent of this book. I highly recommend it. It is thought provoking and hopefully may change attitudes and thus lives for the better.

It has a good timeline of Elvis's life and career. There are some ofElvis's experiences that are touched on that would have been more interesting with a few more facts, but overall it keptme reading and I found it a good and interesting book about Elvis.
