About the Author Tim Delaney is a professor and department chair of sociology at the State University of New York at Oswego. He sponsors an annual sportsmanship day symposium and recently co-created a sports studies program at his university. He lives in Auburn, New York.

From a snicker to laughing out loud. As long as Madam and Eve can appear in newspapers, SA is still a democracy, although with a lot of things that should be better.

Review Reader's Favorite...Four stars!****The Beach House Mystery by Tara Ellis is Book 3 of an on-going series, but it can be read on its own. This was a surprisingly good book, given the fact that it is written in present tense and I usually don't like novels written like that. The story follows two girls, Sam and her friend Ally, who visit a beach where Sam's father is restoring an old boat. What was supposed to be a good vacation on the sand and surf turns out to be a mystery that desperately needs to be solved.There is a lot going on: there is a sea monster, a mystery of the founder of the town, the lighthouse has a mystery of its own, and there is a ghost that is still looking for her husband. Needless to say, the two girls need help and they get it from Sam's brother Hunter and his friend John. Together, the foursome needs to solve these mysteries before something big happens. But with so many forces against them, can they do it?Boy, this was a roller coaster ride that I loved. Sam and Ally are such cool kids. The story reminded me a lot of many R.L. Stine books that I used to read all the time. The dialogues are great and the story is very invigorating. I really loved the fact that the story was more about the mystery. It was focused and that made it more entertaining. The characters were strong and very well-developed. Tara Ellis is a really good writer, and she knows what she is doing, so that made the experience even better.

Not being familiar with US geography, I checked Google maps again to follow the intriguing coastal descriptions of Washington State and Oregon. Tara' Ellis' novels are definitely educational.Twelve-year-old Sam is a wonderful role model for middle-grade readers who are looking for exciting and intelligent mystery and adventure. She's such a resourceful, courageous and loyal character--very likeable. In 'The Beach House Mystery' once again she's joined by best friend and fellow sleuth, Ally. With the help of Sam's older brother, Hunter and his friend, John, the kids unite to solve a mystery that involves spooky night stuff on the beach including wailing voices, rolling fogs and an old lighthouse. The action ramps up when they meet their holiday neighbours and soon find themselves entangled with adult criminals.I especially enjoy the strong theme of friendship in the Sam Wolf Mysteries. The banter between the kids is natural and convincing. The stories are cosy and wholesome with just enough action, excitement and adventure to make them very suitable for middle grade readers.

I loved them when I was in that age group and I love them now. This one definitely did not disappoint.Sam and Ally are once again caught up in a mystery while visiting a beach house near where Sam's dad is overseeing the remodel of a boat. This time, they get their brothers John and Hunter involved. There's a lot of mystery surrounding a lighthouse and a legend about the founder of the town disappearing in the late 1800s and a sea monster and a ghost that haunts the waters, searching for her lost husband. All together it makes for an intriguing story.The ocean and lighthouses fascinate me, so I was excited for this book and I'm glad I read it. It's a fun mystery for anyone, not just middle grade readers.While it didn't detract from the story there were some minor editing problems throughout and in the first five or six chapters John and Hunter's names were mixed up which took me a minute to straighten out. Again, this didn't decrease my enjoyment, but be aware that you may run into this if you read.

This author is in the same league, but the stories are set in a more modern era. Kids nowadays will enjoy the author's inclusion of smart phones, texting, and similar understandings of how 12 year olds currently live. I like how the author respects that pre-teens and young teens are intelligent, yet still make good and bad choices, and creates characters that show this. Too many middle grade authors create characters this age that are still pretty dumb. The story also treats the reader as intelligent, allowing the reader to slowly figure out the mystery along with the characters of Sam and Ally. I'm in my 50's, but still love a good mystery. Love this author! I'll be reading the others in this series!

After watching '84 Charing Cross Road' I was enchanted with Miss Hanff's wit and humor, and needed more. After an arduous search, I found a used copy of 'Underfoot...' and read it in less than 2 days. I even found myself laughing aloud at parts, which greatly disturbed the people sitting next to me. Hanff's ability to laugh at herself and to extract the humor from any situation is addictive. The book begins with a note to the reader: 'Each year, hundreds of stagestruck kids arrive in New York determined to crash the theatre, firmly convinced they're destined to be famous Broadway stars or playwrights. One in a thousand turns out to be Noel Coward. This book is about life among the other 999. By one of them.' From there, Miss Hanff takes the reader on a tour of her adventures and experiences as a struggling playwright in an honest and spirited manner. I was left wishing that my life was as unpredictable and ironic as Miss Hanff's struggle to live her dreams.

She shares stories from her years as a struggling playwright in New York City; her good friend Maxine was a struggling actress. Practically penniless, they still managed to see first-run shows and movies regularly. How they did it is one of many memorable and funny tales.I couldn't help laughing at the merry-go-round of a Broadway agent shopping a play all over town. Ms. Hanff tells how 'Oklahoma!' was named (she was there). One of her many jobs involved speed-reading long novels; her take on Tolkein is slightly different than Peter Jackson's.I echo a previous reviewer's thought: this book would make a terrific film. 'Underfoot in Show Business' is a gem, a memoir full of magic and wit. Highly recommended.

By Anthony Kline I once had to read a bit of this book out to some strangers on a plane who wanted to know why I was laughing out loud and then we had champagne and it was a great flight and Miss Hanff had even more fans. The tears were running down our faces. [ For those of you who have read it already it was the bit about the funeral parlour].This book, like all of Miss Hanff's works, makes you feel great to be alive.I've come to love my native city more and more by seeing it through Miss Hanff's eyes.

I love that this book has 2 variations of both songs: One song is written for lever harps tuned either to the key of C (no flats) and for lever harps tuned to 3 flats. The other song has one version for beginners and another for intermediate harp players - it also mentions that it can be played on the smaller lap-sized harps (although I don't play a lap harp so I can't comment on that). I have played the harp for about a year now, and these arrangements are - with a little practice ;) - within my ability. A great book for Peanuts fans or just folks who love Christmas music!

Woodman has many brilliant insights to share for anyone at any point in their lives when they are questioning the surface/tangible appearance of things and strive to probe deeper into the invisible mystery of our being-ness and ongoing 'selving'. As Thich Nhat Hanh would say: You are a living thing, but your ideas about yourself (or anything else for that matter) are not. I must have listened to this series 50 times because of the amount of wisdom I gained every time I listened. It was as if each time I listened, new layers unfolded and a thought or a concept sunk in a bit deeper. Truly a fantastic listening experience, I would recommend this series to anyone.

I've been a fan of many sorts of games but I recently came across many friends and people that have gotten on the Mine craft train. I never really saw the glam behind the game but as more time passed it seems to have grown in popularity and player count. I would peek at some YouTube videos with minecraft game play and found it to be a very complicated and it seems to require much knowledge to play it with my friends. I knew too little to be able to enjoy a round with my buddies.Then I came across this book. This book had all the basics and notes to what I needed to know to survive a round with my friends. i'm so glad I got this book. I even took notes or even referred to some pages that I had bookmarked. This book helped me stay away from asking awkward questions to my buddies about the game. Thank you!

I had this book sitting on my Kindle since the beginning of September and just read it now. I am a huge fan of Carrie Ann Ryan and this book did not disappoint. Here are some of the things I loved about it:*The whole concept of a circle of girlfriends who are all completely different but somehow are this amazing circle of friends is wonderful. I wish I had one. So often you read books and the heroine is all alone or has one or two good buddies. This opened up a whole new dimensionality to the characters (yes, I make up words).*The premise is stinkin' awesome Seriously! I have absolutely no idea what will happen next.*Lily is a science geek with a bit of OCD. She is not they typical heroine. I so love it when stories embrace the geek. Actually, she was not that geeky, but it still tickled my inner nerd. Ok, my outer nerd ;).*This was a hot, fun, and at times funny adventure as Lily discovers who she has become and who the mysterious stranger of her dreams is.I can not wait until the next book in this series comes out! I saw it posted somewhere that book 4 will feature the dragon shifter. You can only guess who will be first in line for that puppy. If you love your paranormal with a bit of heat, check out this series. It has something in it for every para fan. This book is definitely not for the under 18 crowd.

Dorky and frustrating By Michaela After reading about half of this, I gave up and deleted it, because I was constantly pulled from the story by the following:The writing is awkward and contrived, as if a teenager wrote it, and the many typos are distracting. The characterization is boring. The dialogue is often corny, and is especially trite during the h/H's first sexual encounter, which consists of the most common buzzwords from every romance novel. I kind of wanted to know what happened with the blue dust but, judging by what I'd read so far, decided it was unlikely to be worth getting there. I gave it two stars instead of one because there were a few cute lines ... well, one that I can remember anyway. ... okay, I just didn't want to be mean; the second one is a pity star. Writing a book isn't easy.Offering a well-written Kindle book for free is a great way for authors to gain a following. I've often purchased everything an author has written after reading their free book. Offering a poorly written book for free, however, dooms the author just as much as if they'd charged for it. I'm unlikely to try again with Ryan, and that's a shame.

Nice Read By Johanne Kubik I love Carrie Ann Ryan, I think she is a brilliant author who manages to capture the emotions of her characters and the intensity of her story lines really well.This book, while a good story, I found lacking. I just didn't gel with it. I enjoyed it, but I didn't have an issue with putting it down to get on with life and I wasn't desperate to get back to it, which is how I am with her other books. I felt a couple of spots were rushed and the characters just didn't grab my attention the way her others have.I think it is worth reading, mainly as it is the start of a new series.Not every book is going to be a hit, that's impossible, so I will most definitely continue to read everything that Carrie Ann releases, knowing you can't please everyone all the time. I know others will disagree with this review and that's fine, my advice, read it and decide for yourself.
